Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a9 monthfixed term position as anImage Processing Research Fellowwith theSchool of Medicineat the National University of Ireland, Galway.

This position is funded by Enterprise Irelandand is available from 01/01/18 to contract end date of 30/9/18. It is expected that after this date the role will carry into Stage Two of the project subject to successful project outcome and funding acquisition.

Job Description:

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to join a dynamic and motivated team developing a product for use in ear surgery. The candidate will be involved in developing early prototypes and image processing solutions in a fast paced environment. The candidate will be responsible for creating and enhancing vision algorithmic programs, rules and formulae for the device and will work closely with the and hardware suppliers to choose hardware systems which will optimise device capabilities.

Duties:

  • Work and collaborate in a team with expertise including, clinical medicine, business, engineering, design, quality management system, and medical device regulation.
  • Have oversight and provide leadership over entire vision system.
  • Engage in the development of proprietary technology.Responsible for implementation ofimage processing aspects of medical device
  • Research and develop optimal image &video processingalgorithms for embedded systems
  • Design and conduct image quality experiments for medical device optics
  • Proactively identify technical solutions and risks for project deliverables
  • Responsible for bringing the project from concept to C / Hardware implementation.
  • Dynamically approach problems
  • Develop design specifications and prototypes.
  • Work with external consultant to develop quality management systems and risk analysis in line with FDA regulations.
  • Documenting work in line with quality systems, to satisfy FDA approval requirements
  • Iterative prototyping of entire vision system.
  • Collaborate and manage external suppliers of different parts in vision system.
  • Lay foundations for future development in augmented reality.

Qualifications:

•Master or PhD Diploma in image / video analysis and processing fields

•Expertise in area of computer vision: image feature detection and tracking, object detection, pattern recognition and classification, statistical analysis.

•Strong C, C++ programming skills or strong rapid prototyping skills in Python, Matlab, Octave.

•Experience with OpenCV library

•Knowledge of optics, image sensors and image quality assessment

•Motivated and creative person, dynamic, creative thinker and problem solver

•Good leadership skills, team player, excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Salary: €51,716 per annum

Start date: Position is available from 01/01/2018
