SUBJECT:SECOND REVISION TOSenate Actions ofNovember 10, 2015

Pursuant to the memorandum of November 13, 2015,I am pleased to approve the following recommendations of the Academic Senate from its November 10, 2015meeting.

  1. Graduate Programs Committee (GPC) report of October 22, 2015, recommending updating the GPC policies manual regarding applications for graduate curricular changes, graduate faculty status, and other matters. These policies will be presented on the GPC website and provide guidance to the NMU community on important matters such as the process by which applications for new graduate courses and programs should be prepared and submitted. The full text of the policies manual is attached, with Track Changes showing the recommended modifications to the text. (Rules were suspended and moved to a second reading).
  1. The Calendar Committee recommends the proposed 2017-2018, 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 Academic Calendars. (Please note a motion was made and approved to amend the 2017-18 calendar as follows: the University will be closed on July 3 and July 4, 2017 in observance of Independence Day.)
  1. Admissions and Academic Policies Committee (AAPC) report of September 25, 2015, recommending NMU will recognize the results of the iTEP Academic-Plus test as another acceptable demonstration of English language proficiency for undergraduate admission to undergraduate degree programs. A score of 3.7 or higher on the iTEP Academic-Plus test will be deemed acceptable for undergraduate admission. Note: iTEP Academic-Core test results will not be accepted for admission purposes.
  1. Graduate Programs Committee (GPC) report of November 9, 2015, recommending:

1.Graduate Faculty status for 12 faculty.

2.Modification of the School of Clinical Sciences courses CLS 580 and CLS 599. New wording in the course description of CLS 580 will permit assay design and development or clinical utility studies. Both CLS 580 and CLS 599 will be revised such that they may be taken repeatedly in increments of 1-4 credits with a minimum of 4 credits required for graduation. Course change proposals describing these modifications are attached.
