Job Title:Direct Marketing Executive

Reporting To:Head of Direct Marketing and Supporter Care

Main Job Role:The Direct Marketing Executive will be responsible for raising unrestricted income from individuals through a range of direct marketing techniques and to recruit and retain individual donors for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust. Activities will include direct mail, digital appeals, raffles/gaming, telemarketing and payroll giving.

Main Duties:

  • Project manage direct marketing activities - in line with agreed procedures - from start to completion delivering them on time, within expenditure budget and meeting KPI targets
  • Provide regular reports on direct marketing activities to the Head of Individual Giving and Legacies including undertaking and facilitating analysis
  • Brief and work with external suppliers including data consultants, telemarketing agency, print/production supplier and professional fundraising organisations
  • Brief and work with internal suppliers including Head of Individual Giving and Legacies, Brand and Digital team, Supporter Care team and Finance
  • Write accurate data selection and segmentation briefs to maximise fundraising opportunities
  • Write & review copy/scripts, proof artwork and ensure that it is agreed by all appropriate individuals and departments and adheres to sign off procedures
  • Support the development of new fundraising propositions/products for the marketing team
  • Contribute to the collection of case studies, photography and films for marketing purposes and adhere to agreed collection procedures
  • Keep the direct marketing sections on the Cystic Fibrosis Trust website up to date
  • Work with the Supporter Care team to keep the content of the donor and supporter acknowledgments up to date
  • Keep the content of all direct marketing related on and offline forms up to date – ensure these are reviewed every 6 months
  • Work with other fundraising teams to develop, implement and measure cross-sell opportunities
  • Undertake donor feedback activities including project managing the production of a donor newsletter and digital feedback activity
  • Ensure that all donors are given the opportunity to make their donation tax effective, where appropriate and adhere to the procedures for managing tax effective donations
  • Update supporter records on the corporate database and ensure that direct marketing activity is with the Trusts Privacy policy. Maintain the security and confidentiality of individual details as required
  • Work with the Database Assistant to ensure that all communications with supporters are be accurately recorded on the corporate database following agreed procedures
  • Work with the Head of Individual Giving and Legacies and the Database Manager to maximise data collection opportunities throughout the Cystic Fibrosis Trust in line with the Privacy Policy
  • Adhere to the income processing and administration policies and monitor & report any problems to the Head of Individual Giving and Legacies
  • Ensure that all approaches to individuals are handled in an appropriate manner, promptly and courteously and that any complaints follow the agreed process for complaint handling. Reporting any problems as and when they arise.
  • Keep the Head of Individual Giving and Legacies advised of any financial changes that will impact on the strategic plan or budget

General

  • To forge good and productive relationships with external suppliers and partners
  • Comply with the Institute of Fundraising Code of Practice and charity/fundraising law - including those relating to tax effective giving, gambling, direct debits and data protection
  • Keep up to date with developments in direct marketing and fundraising practice
  • To play a proactive part within the Marketing Division ensuring that any opportunities are recognised and shared where necessary
  • Attend and contribute to meetings and fundraising events as required
  • Maintain an up to date knowledge of current activities within the Cystic Fibrosis Trust and Cystic Fibrosis issues and be an advocate of the Cystic Fibrosis Trust brand at all times
  • Carry out any other reasonable duties that are consistent with the skills, abilities and position of this role.

Person Specification:

The right candidate will have a broad range and experience of direct marketing skills and techniques. Have proven, demonstrable fundraising and marketing success. You should be a creative and logical thinker, a good communicator and able to take the initiative.

Essential

  • Proven track record in fundraising from individuals via direct marketing
  • Experienced in working with a relational donor database for fundraising purposes
  • Experienced in data selection and segmentation
  • Direct mail copywriting skills
  • Ability to proof artwork
  • Experienced in detailed direct marketing campaign analysis
  • Ability to work comfortably with external suppliers & agencies
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills
  • Excellent verbal and written skills
  • Excellent knowledge of Excel and working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Strong team player
  • Budget monitoring skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Target oriented

Desirable

  • A marketing/business degree or equivalent
  • Experience of working with Care Databases
  • Knowledge of laws relating to tax effective giving, gambling, direct debits and data protection
