Responsible to: Senior Animal Behaviourist
JOB DETAILS
Working Hours
Monday to Friday, 9.00am to 5.00pm. However, due to the nature of the work of Blue Cross and this post it may be necessary to exceed these hours when the work load demands. This role requires a significant amount of travelling to rehoming services across the country which will require some overnight stays.
Essential qualifications, skills and experience
· Relevant Degree (or equivalent qualification or experience)
· Manual Driving Licence
· Membership of recognised professional pet behaviour body
· Carrying out behaviour and training programmes for dogs / cats
· Extensive experience of working with a variety of dog breeds / temperaments
· Experience in carrying out behavioural assessments of animals
· Experience of working in an office environment with extensive use of MS Office
· Proven experience and success in understanding and resolving pet behaviour, particularly dogs and cats in a rescue environment
Desirable qualifications, skills and experience
· MSc in behaviour / Post graduate diploma in companion animal behaviour counselling
· Certified clinical animal behaviourist (CCAB) or Animal Behaviour and Training Council (ABTC) registered clinical animal behaviourist
· Delivery of training/coaching sessions and production of training materials, lesson plans etc
· Delivery of presentations
· Experience of promoting better understanding of pet behaviour through the media
The Person
The successful candidate will demonstrate sound up to date knowledge, both practical and theoretical in pet training and behaviour techniques. They will have excellent communication skills, adapting their teaching/coaching style to suit customers accordingly (on the phone, via email or in person). They will be a motivated individual, able to work under pressure on their own initiative whilst retaining a good sense of humour. They will be able to prioritise and manage a considerable workload and busy schedule that will require regular travel. Additionally they will be empathetic towards others in sometimes difficult circumstances.
Main Purpose of the Job
· To work as part of a close team helping to support customers to help resolve behaviour problems in Blue Cross pets.
· To provide ongoing help, advice and support to rehoming and clinical teams in all matters relating to pet behaviour.
· Support charity activities that require a behaviour team spokesperson, input or presence.
Duties
· Provision of expert help for rehoming customers, clinical clients and Blue Cross teams to resolve/prevent pet behaviour problems both over the telephone and face to face. This will involve visiting Blue Cross service locations and customer visits
· Behaviourally assess Blue Cross pets
· Train and coach Animal Behaviour Coordinators and rehoming team members in new training and modification techniques
· Write and retain accurate and timely records of behaviour work undertaken
· Promote the services of the behaviour team
· Provide other directorates with behaviour advice where required
· Respond to media requests via the Comms team as a behaviour team spokesperson
· Suppport Fundraising and Marketing in promotional initiatives that require a spokesperson or presence
Salary
Salary range £31,620 to £34,000
