Muirhouse is a developing area within Edinburgh, and we are a busy surgery with a high number of patients with multiple conditions and also a significant number of patients from other countries and cultures.

We are looking for a maternity leave cover starting at the beginning of February 2018 for 4 sessions each week (preferred sessions are Wednesday and Friday all day). While we would prefer to engage one GP for all four sessions we would also be prepared to consider 2 GP’s each working two sessions.

DETAILS OF POST

Post Title:Salaried GP – Maternity Leave cover (up to 1 year)

Duties

You will be required to provide General Medical Services to patients of the Practice by way of (inter alia) surgeries, clinics and relevant administrative work. You will also be required to provide general medical services to patients in their own homes when they are unable to attend the surgery.

You may be required to undertake other duties as are required of the Practice providing such services under the provisions of the NHS (General Medical Services) Regulations 1992 as amended and the NHS (Pharmaceutical Services) Regulations 1992 as amended and which are delegated to you by the Practice.

Sessions

Morning surgeries are usually from 9 am to 11 am, followed by extras and house calls

Afternoon surgeries usually last for 2.5 hours plus emergency extras.

You will be expected to be the duty doctor covering emergencies, dealing with telephone queries, signing repeat prescriptions and covering house calls approximately once every two weeks.

Computer systems

You are required to record relevant patient information using the computerised systems provided. These systems are summarised below:

  • INPS Vision (main clinical record)
  • Docman (electronic filing system for scanned documents and messaging system)
  • SCI gateway (electronic referrals)
  • Front Desk (appointments system)

Confidentiality

Subject to the necessary sharing of information with other Health Professionals and with the informed consent of the patient, you are required to preserve the absolute confidentiality of the affairs of the Practice and of its patients and of all matters connected with the Practice and this obligation shall continue in perpetuity.
