Measure E Construction Update

Ron reported there have been minimal changes on the following projects:

  • Secondary Data Center-project awarded to Robert Boyer Construction. Anticipate mobilizing project the end of April; most interior work to be completed during the summer. Cosmetically, there will be no changes. The parking space groundwork will be completed towards the end of summer. Contractors will access Alder primarily by the gravel road with staging at the basketball court near the Davis Cabin.
  • Tank Replacement–should be complete by August; project is in the third round of design.
  • Redbud– demolition complete; inside framing occurring now. Project to be finalized by the end of summer and occupied for fall semester.
  • Sequoia–in DSA; anticipate construction to begin the end of June/first of July. Should be complete by December 2013. To discuss a committee tour with Facilities prior to opening.
  • Manzanita–in design development phase; anticipate plans to DSA in August with construction beginning March 2014. Swing space planning will occur during fall semester
  • Roadway – in design; anticipate plans to DSA in May. First phase projects should be finalized by August.

College Facilities Projects

Judy reported on the following projects:

  • A leak in the propane line was discovered in the roadway near Manzanita. The area has been isolated and shut down until corrective measures can be completed during the summer. Additional propane tanks have been brought onto campus for about 2-3 months. Propane delivery should occur Friday afternoons.
  • Laurie reported Willow may be off-line during the summer.
  • The portable restroom has been removed at Symons Field. The portable restroom at Alder will be removed when construction is completed.
  • Benches and a sprinkler system to be installed at Carkeet Park during the summer. Other improvements planned include repainting poles, wire covers and washing the concrete. In response to a question, there are no plans for a permanent restroom at this time due to cost.
  • The swing space plan is moving forward. A few people will be moved during the summer. IT staff will be working with Facilities on technology needs in swing space areas. Discussions on signage for service locations during the Manzanita remodel will be reconvened in the fall.

Safety Sub-Committee Report-Out

Greg reported the following issues were discussed at the Safety Committee meeting:

  • Update on tagging security incidents
  • Kim attended the mental health first aid class; was well done with attendees feeling well equipped
  • YCCD Injury Illness Prevention Plan (IIPP) is being reviewed and updated
  • Shuttle bus route maps are posted around campus

Other

Wendy Link asked if the email from Dr. Hofstra regarding the tagging incidents was sent to students. The committee felt it is important this message be sent to the students via an email blast.

Matt reported an increase of smoking in the bus barn. He asked that a “no smoking” sign be posted in the bus barn with an arrow to the new smoking area.

Doralyn stated the students were asking when the par course will be reflected on the campus map again. The par course was removed during the Measure E construction. Judy will discuss the issue with Gary. In response to a question, Judy reported two par course stations are cleaned and updated per year. Facilities is working with the Arts & Sciences department on redoing the station signs. Doralyn reported the students have volunteered to mark the course during summer. Discussion followed on the use of volunteers to maintain the par course. There are different procedures for volunteers on a clean-up event as opposed to classroom volunteers.

Liz reported the pull-up bars on the par course behind the observatory are coming loose and may need to be inspected.
