RECORD OF BOARD PROCEEDINGS (Minutes)

Ashland, Kentucky October 15, 2012

The Boyd County Board of Education met at the Boyd County Central Alternative School at 7 PM,

on the 15th day of October, 2012 with the following members present:

(1) Mr. Robert Green, Chairperson (2) Mr. Randall Stapleton, Vice Chair (Absent)

(3) Ms. Linda Day (4) Ms. Theresa H. Jackson (Absent) (5) Ms. Tammy Pruitt

The Boyd County Board of Education met on Monday, October 15, 2012, for a special meeting at the Boyd County Central Alternative School, 12005 Virginia Blvd., Ashland, Kentucky. The purpose of the special meeting was to meet with Site Base Councils from Ramey/Estep High School, Boyd County Central, Ponderosa Elementary, Catlettsburg Elementary and Cannonsburg Elementary Schools.

Board Members absent were Theresa H. Jackson and Randy Stapleton.

Chairperson Green called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

Board Order No. 54. On motion by Ms. Pruitt, seconded by Ms. Day, and carried, the board approved the agenda.

All Members Present Voting Yes.

Ponderosa Elementary Site Base Council members, principal Matt Spade, teachers Megan Wallace, Penny Fuller, and parent Tina Crum discussed technology, Waldo the attendance gnome, Student Academic Performance and Instructional Strategies and Activities.

Catlettsburg Elementary Principal Marci Prater and Site Base Council members Daniel Adams, Rhodonna Fields, Nona Robinson, and parent Velvet Childers discussed/reviewed with the board on their new vision statement: Today Students, Tomorrow Successes”! They also discussed the CSIP Focus is MAP, Gap, and College & Career Ready; their Program Reviews and their concerns for Textbooks and Facility Needs.

Principal Jon Stevens, and teachers Christie Griffith, Lisa Bocook, Megan Thomas and parent Robin Stanfield and Linda Justice from Cannonsburg Elementary discussed the school culture, MAP Data, Program Reviews, need for more Technology, the new Day Treatment Program, College & Career Readiness, Walk-throughs and their enrollment increasing by seventy students over the last two years, mostly because of the follow-up phone calls from Mr. Stevens after teachers have parent conferences.

Principle Ann Brewster from Ramey/Estep High School presented apple butter and a copy of the Circle five book written by Ramey-Estep students to each board member. Ms. Brewster presented a power point reviewing the school data and current programs. There will be 18 students to graduate on December 6th, 2012 from the new Boyd County High School.

Director Dara Su’ Knipp reviewed and presented information regarding Boyd County Central. Ms. Knipp informed the board that 42 students were enrolled at BCC. BCC has 15 students graduating on December 6th, 2012.

Board Order No. 55. On motion by Ms. Day, seconded by Ms. Pruitt and carried, the board approved a fund raising request from Ponderosa Elementary to hold a Fall Festival on October 20, 2012.

All Members Present Voting Yes.

Board Order No. 56. On motion by Ms. Pruitt, seconded by Ms. Day and carried, the board approved adjourning the special meeting at 8:12 p.m.
