Dear Parents and Carers,

RE: School Camp 2014 for Grade 6

The Year 6 camp in 2014 will provide the students with an exciting, rewarding and interesting experience of Melbourne life. Even though your children will have already been to Melbourne, going together as a group is an experience, which they will never forget. As a learning community, we are very much looking forward to this experience.

Camp Dates

We depart on Monday 31st March and return Wednesday 2nd April. The group will be travelling with V-Line Train Services.

On Monday we will depart from Marshall station at 9:18am. We ask that parents transport their children to Marshall Station, arriving NO LATER than 9.00am, in time to have their names checked off by their teacher /leader for the camp (students will be notified who this is closer to the date).

On Wednesday 2ndwe will return to Marshall Station at 3:09pm and we ask that they be picked them up at this time, checking in with their teacher leader again before taking them home.

MYKI cards

In the past, we have been able to get free tram travel whilst in Melbourne, through Metlink. With the introduction of the MYKI cards, this option is no longer available to us. It is your responsibility to purchase a MYKI card for your child, with a $10 amount on it. Myki cards may be purchased at all 7 eleven stores, online by phone 136954.This card remains the responsibility of individual students so we advise that you buy a lanyard which the students can hang around their necks so that they have their cards on them, at all times. Given the number of students and the number of times students will need to swipe their own cards, it is impractical for staff to take charge of these cards.

Cost

Camp fees are charged to your school fee account and these will cover accommodation, train travel, food and a range of exciting activities.

Permission Form

Parents must give their consent before any child can participate in this school camp. Please ensure that all forms provided are signed and sent back to school by Friday 7th March.

Supervision

Supervising adults on this camp will be Ronald Dando, Leanne Todd, Nicole Sadler, Stephanie Nitschke, Paul Noonan and Dena Reddan.

Requirements

A list of student requirements for the camp has been included with this letter to help you with organisational matters.

Medical Forms

Also attached to this letter are medical forms which must be filled out in detail and returned to the school with the permission form, the more detail the better. ALL medication needs to be in a sealed labelled bag with the following information: students name, medication, dosage and when to be administered. This needs to be given to your child’s teacher leader either prior to or on the morning of departure. We understand that children may be on medication between now and the camp so please update forms on the morning of departure. No child should be carrying their own medicine (asthma inhalers excepted).

Meals

On the first day, the children will need to provide their own snacks, lunch and drink. A small backpack to carry things would be practical.

On the final day of camp the students will be taken to the Southbank where they will have an opportunity to buy their lunch and look around. To buy their lunch they will need to be provided with some spending money, please send along NO MORE than $30.

While on camp all other meals will be provided and children with special dietary needs can be catered for, so please indicate on the medical form any special needs your child may have.

Please complete and return medical and permission forms by Friday 7thMarch, 2014.

Yours sincerely,

5/6 Teachers
