Re: Inside Bank Accounting Practices

I’m writing to ask for approval to attend the Knowledge Center’s program, Inside Bank Accounting Practices, March 22-23 in Dallas, TX. In this seminar, I’ll learn how banks account for and report their complex operating results - from balance sheet management techniques to fair value accounting. The lectures and case studies will provide me with both the theoretical background and the real-world context I need. When I return to work, I'll have the perspective and techniques I need to help our organization optimize its approach.

As an attendee, I will:

·  Learn to identify questions in bank accounting and analysis that arise from management discretion in reporting and disclosure

·  Understand amortized cost accounting vs. fair value accounting and how it affects a bank's exposure

·  Know the accounting rules and disclosures associated with the reporting of a bank's credit risks

·  Analyze the fair value accounting and disclosures for financial instruments, investment securities, mortgages and other servicing rights

Here’s an approximate breakdown of the costs:

Airfare: $___
Transportation: (round trip taxi from airport to hotel) $___
Hotel: (2 nights) $___
Meals: $___
Registration Fee: $2,195 ($1,895 through Feb. 3)
Total: $____

I’m confident that sending me to Inside Bank Accounting Practices will be a worthwhile investment.
