Ranging Subcommittee Report

The ranging subcommittee has had two conference calls so far. See document 15-04-0411-01-004a for more detailed minutes (thanks to Colin Lanzl).

The ranging subcommittee has identified 5 different techniques for doing ranging. These are:

  • Time of Arrival Ranging
  • Angle of Arrival Ranging
  • Time Difference of Arrival Ranging
  • Signal Strength Ranging
  • Near Field EM Ranging

The objective of the group is to document the recommended modifications to PIB and interfaces to support these ranging alternatives. Specifically the group will be investigating:

  • Recommended SAP Modifications to support Ranging
  • Recommended PIB Modifications to support Ranging
  • Recommended MAC Commands to support Ranging

We’ve had volunteers come forth to lead discussion on each of these techniques. These people are:

  • Ranging Overview … Benoit Denis (15-04-0418-00-04a)
  • Time of Arrival Ranging … Joe Decuir
  • Angle of Arrival Ranging … Marilynn Green
  • Time Difference of Arrival Ranging … TBD
  • Signal Strength Ranging … Neiyer Correal
  • Near Field EM Ranging … Hans Schantz (15-04-0438-00-04a)

We’d like to thank these individuals for their participation.

The schedule looks like this (assuming the Hurricanes will stay away from Florida)

  • Kick-off call … 5 August 2004
  • Overview Presentation and Near Field Discussions… 19 August 2004
  • Angle of Arrival and Signal Strength Discussions … 23 September 2004
  • Time Difference of Arrival Discussions … 7 October 2004
  • Initial Draft of Final Report … 21 October 2004
  • Final Draft of Final Report … 4 November 2004
  • Subcommittee Session during Plenary for final report review and final editing … week of November 14 at Plenary
  • Presentation to Full Committee … week of November 14 at Plenary
