RAMAPO’S BROWN NAMED 2011-12 NJAC MEN’S INDOOR TRACK & FIELD MOST OUTSTANDING ATHLETE

Pitman, NJ—Ramapo College junior Ackeme Brown (Englewood, NJ/Dwight Morrow) has been named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Men’s Indoor Track & Field Most Outstanding Athlete for the 2011-12 season. His selection highlighted the 66-member NJAC men’s indoor track & field all-conference team which was announced on March 7. All NJAC special awards were determined by a vote of the league’s nine head coaches, while the league’sall-conference honorswere based on performances at the NJAC Indoor Track & Field Championships conducted at the New York Armory on February 24.

Brown garnered the conference’s top men’s indoor honor after claiming the NJAC championship in the 60 meter dash with a conference-record time of 6.89. He also finished second in the conference long jump with a runner-up leap of 6.69 meters, and third in the NJAC 200 meters with a time of 22.28. Brown also was a member of Ramapo’s NJAC third place 4x200 meter relay which produced a Ramapo school-record time of 1:30.31.

Rowan University junior Demetrius Rook (Galloway, NJ/Absegami)was named the NJAC Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Year. He claimed the NJAC championship in the 400 meters with a season-best time of 48.92. Rooks also was a member of Rowan’s NJAC champion 4x400 meter relay which produced a winning time of 3:18.55.

Farmingdale State College junior Edward Brown (Bay Shore, NY/Bay Shore) was selected as the NJAC Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Year. He claimed the NJAC championship in the weight throw with a conference-record toss of 18.09 meters. Brown also placed ninth in the conference shot put with a throw of 12.93 meters.
Farmingdale State freshman William Frederic (Brooklyn, NJ/Brooklyn Generation) and The College of New Jersey freshman James O’Connor (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) were selected as NJAC Men’s Indoor Co-Rookies of the Year. Frederic was a member of Farmingdale’s conference second place distance medley relay which posted a runner-up time of 1:58.85. He also placed ninth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:01.19. O’Connor claimed the NJAC championship in the high jump with a personal-best leap of 1.98 meters. He also placed sixth in the 60 meter hurdles with time of 9.26.

TCNJhead coach Phil Jennings was selected as the NJAC Men’s Indoor Coach of the Year by his peers for the third consecutive season. Jennings guided the Lions to a first place finish in the 2011-12 NJAC Indoor Championship, marking his team’s 15th consecutive conference title.TCNJ remains the only program in the history of the conference to claim the NJAC men’s indoor team championship.
