2. Approve Agenda Monday, November 3, 2014

3.Public Comment

·  Joy Osiuhwu:

Here to observe the senate for a field study project. Mr. Clarks Political Science class.

·  Darren Meeks:

Here to observe an AS meeting to see if it sparks interest.

·  Lissette Urbina:

Student Journalist- here to cover the meeting.

4.Officers and Senators Reports/Updates

Cleashaun Hill:

·  No report

Gilbert Lopez Thomas:

·  The budget is now updated and the current budget is about $99,000

·  Line item 7 still needs the debate team funding taken away.

Diona Shelbourne:

·  Went to the Dig Pink Volleyball Game it was pretty cool, very decorated.

·  Also went to the last event for Anti-Bullying Month, the spoken word event was successful.

Sable Horton:

·  Attended the Human Library Event, Dig Pink Volleyball Game and The Day of the Dead festival.

Justin Simon:

·  No Report

Gary Walker:

·  Went to the Human Library which was really fun and successful, checked out two books and it was great to see how many people showed up.

·  There were passionate students at the Spoken Word event for Anti-Bullying Month.

·  Pink Game is fun, there was a referee issue but overall a good turnout.

·  Went to downtown Pittsburg and met up with business leaders about “Rent” and made connections. Actually met a historian and found out that there was nothing about Los Medanos College in the Museum

·  Had the 1st meeting to the Veterans Appreciation Dinner - Came out with great ideas, November 17 at 11am they will have their first test meeting. Thinking of Veterans Appreciation Dinner around February 6th.

Brianna Klipp:

·  The public debate at Pittsburg City Hall went well; there was a lot of interaction with the audience.

·  Attended the Spoken Word event for Anti-Bullying Month and it was really interesting to see all the passionate speakers

·  Went to some of the Dig Pink Game

·  No Report

5. Advisor Report

D.Lawrence

·  Next Tuesday from 11am-1pm there will be an annual Soup Cookoff, the last day to register is tomorrow at 5.

·  The Lady Mustangs did will the Pink Volleyball Game

·  College Scholarship Workshops will happen this Wednesday in the CORE

·  Blood Drive, Wednesday 11/12 from 10AM-3PM in L109, donors will receive a ticket to six flags discovery kingdom

·  There is a Soccer Pink came this Thursday November 6th from 4pm-6pm, there will be cancer awareness t-shirts and free hotdogs.

·  There Student Life Office and the English Department is coordinating an event to have Brian Copeland preform his one man show “ Not a Genuine Black Man”

·  Saturday November 15th is Philanthropy Day- filling out thank you note cards for donors on campus, there will be a set up in the student life office.

·  Los Medanos College 40th Anniversary- March 21st from 10am-3pm

6. Theater Dept. Update with Professor Nick Garcia

·  There will be at least 20 different types of posters, each character will have its own spot on a poster.

·  The flyers being distributed will be the first wave of flyers there will be many to come

·  Ticket count is due by Tuesday

·  T-Shirt ideas for t-shirts to give away after the play.

7. GA Continuation

·  The rooms for GA are sold out.

·  There people who are registered to come are 4 people LMCAS, 1 delegate and 3 students.

·  There is 1 king sized bed and 1 roll away bed.

·  There are 2 rooms, one for the ladies and another for the gentlemen.

·  Candice Tidwell is not able to attend GA because of an exam

·  Diona Shelbourne: Expense wise and for the room situation, only people that haven’t been to GA should go.

·  Early Bird Registration is $235 per registration and $140 for the delegate, and now the price is $285 for registration for each additional student.

·  2 additional people will be added for registration for GA, in total there will be 6 people from LMCAS.

·  The GA Program is available.

8. National Philanthropy Day

·  Philanthropy Day is on November 15, 2014

·  It would be great if LMCAS could participate.

·  There will be a set up in student life

9. Supporting Veterans Strategy

·  There are about 300 Students at LMC are identified as a veteran.

·  Under represented population.

·  There are also blue star families at LMC that should be a part of the event.

·  They will send out post cards to all the registered veterans on campus.

·  February 6, 201-is an estimated date for the dinner.

·  Brianna Klipp: There should be a campaign to let people know about the event.

10. National Bullying Month Update

·  Wrapped up National Anti-Bullying Month

·  The Spoken Word event was going to be canceled because the turn of the event was less than expected but then people started to want to be a part of the Spoken Word event.

·  The events could have been bigger but someone learned something and as long as someone was affected in a positive way the events were successful.

11. March in March

·  Briana Klipp: Experienced the event to be very unorganized

·  Diona Shelbourne: In the region they were talking about March in March and they were wondering if LMC was going to have a March in March

-There is an advocacy conference prior to March in March

-March in March is very empowering

-It’s actually a leadership conference in Sacramento

12. Business Card Update

·  There hasn’t been any feedback from the company making the cards

13. Retreat Ideas & Budget

·  Table topics until next meeting

14. Historians Update

·  The historian will keep track of things that LMCAS is doing.

·  The historian will provide more than just visual minutes.

·  The Honors Program has student historians.

15. Photo Shoot

·  Photoshoot from 2:30-3:00 with cardigans, t-shirts, and name badges
