Ref: P4022

1.0PREAMBLE:

This specification is for the application of a durable, hygienic and easily cleaned high build floor coating system, which, with the correct design detailing, will effectively “tank” Floors subject to frequent
wetting.Such areas include changing rooms, ablution blocks, showers, animal husbandry areas and light duty food preparation facilities.

The system has low odour during application and fast cure characteristics allowing for work to be done in limited time frames. The Traxx SL System with non-slip finish has MAF QUAL approval.

2.0SURFACE PREPARATION:

2.1General - Responsibility

Unless expressly agreed otherwise at time of contract pricing, all work in this section shall be the responsibility of the Main Contractor, whether carried out by this his own staff, other sub-trades or the Specialist Finishes Sub-contractor.In the latter case, such preparatory work shall be priced separately from work defined in Sections 3.0-5.0 inclusive.

2.2New Concrete

2.2.1Shall be finished to NZS3114 U3 standard and shall be laid true to falls as required.

2.2.2Shall be cured at least 14 days at the time of coating application.

2.2.3Shall be acid-etched to give an open surface, if the surface has been mechanically trowelled to a tight finish.

2.2.4Shall have all designed expansion/construction joints correctly formed or cut.

2.3Concrete Masonry and Coves

2.3.1All concrete masonry to be coated shall be de-nibbed and smooth-faced.

2.3.2All mortar coves shall be installed using a Chevacryl Admix grout, and shall be
radiussed to dimensions shown on construction drawings.

3.0SURFACE PRETREATMENT:

3.1Concrete Patching - Major Defects:

All discontinuities and broken areas shall be patched using a Chevacryl Admix gauged patch plaster, Admix slurry-bonded to well prepared concrete.Such patching shall be done at least 48 hours before application of the Traxx SL system, and any rough edges/areas shall be ground smooth.

3.2Concrete Patching

All imperfections and discontinuities shall be filled flush using Traxx Filler or Traxx Patch Mix, which shall be allowed to cure at least overnight before overcoating.

3.3Expansion/Construction Joints:

Shall be correctly prepared, primed and sealed using Traxx Floorjoint, applied in accordance with Specification P108 and Manufacturers instructions.Allowance shall be madewhen
applying Traxx SL flooring, to bring all expansion joints through the coating.

Construction joints which must be concealed, shall have the Floorjoint overlaid with a Traxx SL Basecoat bandage, using Equus Flexitape.

3.4Upstands and Coves

Prior to application of the flooring the vertical faces of upstands associated with the Traxx SL floor shall be flushed out as required with the Traxx Filler or an approved epoxy mortar, prior to treatment as detailed in 4.2 below.

3.5All surfaces shall be clean and dry at the time of coating application.

4.0SYSTEM APPLICATION:

4.1Primer:

All surfaces to be sealed, including upstands, plinths and coves, shall be primed with one (1) coatof CHEVALINE EPISTIXX applied at approximately 10-11 sqm/litre as supplied.
The mixed EPISTIXX shall be diluted as required for easy application.

4.2Vertical Surfaces - Where Required:

All vertical surfaces, upstands and coves, shall receive two (2) coats of TRAXX SLT applied by brush or roller at a spreading rate of2.5-3 sqm/litre/coat.TRAXX SLT shall be mixed and applied in accordance with Manufacturers directions,The coating shall be taken aminimum of 100 mm up all walls and 75 mm on to the floor before application of the TRAXX SL to the floor surfaces. The top edge shall be struck to a neat line to suit wall profile.

The junction of timber stud walls and door frames with the concrete floor, whether a cove-fillet has been installed or not, shall be reinforced with either150 mm strip of 225 gsm glass fibre chopped strand mat centred on the junction and embedded in the first coat of TRAXX SLT or Equus Flexitape similarly embedded – depending on detailing. The mat shall be turned up to a neat line and cut neatly around upstands.Sufficient TRAXX SLT shall be used in the
second coat to ensure the mat is completely impregnated and sealed off.

4.3Horizontal Surfaces:

All floor surfaces shall receive one (1) coat of TRAXX SL Bodycoat followed within 24 hours by one (1) coat of TRAXX SL Topcoat.Application of each coat shall be at a spreading rate of 2.5 sqm/litre, and shall be by brush or roller. The material shall only be thinned for
application in situations where conditions inhibit achievement of this spreading rate.

Care shall be taken to ensure the coating is carried continuously through floor areas under any installed items of plant.

4.4Non-Skid Surface:

Where required in any area, as delineated on construction drawings, one (1) coat of TRAXXNS shall be applied by roller or brush to provide a non-slip surface. It should be noted that such areas may be delineated more clearly by the use of a colour differing from that of the
surrounding TRAXX SL, if this is considered appropriate.Application shall be in strict
accordance with Manufacturers instruction so as to achieve an even finish with edges masked as appropriate to provide clean lines.

NOTE:Where light-fast performance of the topcoat is important, ColourcureNS shall be used instead of TRAXXNS.

5.0GENERAL NOTES:

5.1Crack Treatment:

Generally minor cracks will be satisfactorily filled and sealed using the system specified above. Any larger cracks which require a reinforced surface, either for structural integrity or because of anticipated movement, shall be reinforced with either 225 gsm fibreglass mat or Equus Flexitape embedded in the TRAXX SL Bodycoat.

5.2Sealing Around Plant Fixings:

Where items of plant area fixed directly to floor surfaces to be sealed, and the fixings can not be removed to allow installation of the membrane, allowance shall be made, where
appropriate, for installation of a fillet seal of an approved sealant (Tremco Tremflex 25 or equivalent) between membrane and fixing plates to ensure watertight integrity.

5.3Colour

Unless otherwise stipulated for a particular purpose the colour of Traxx SL and Traxx NS/Colourcure NS shall be the same.

5.4Sealing of Expansion Joints

The flooring shall not be carried over any elastomeric sealant beads. All construction joints shall be correctly masked out and sealed with Traxx Floorjoint or Tremco THC 900, working in strict accordance with Specification P108 and appropriate procedures.

6.0MAINTENANCE AND WARRANTY

6.1Maintenance

The Traxx SL system can be cleaned at any time with mild detergent washing. If
re-topcoating is necessary this can be carried out using Colourcure Topcoat after thorough surface cleaning. The manufacturer should be consulted as to surface preparation at that time.

Normal vinyl sheet flooring maintenance base/polish systems can be used over smooth finish Traxx SL, and are recommended for commercial dry service areas.
