Radicom’s USB WiFi Modules Now Feature Soft AP Support

These USB WiFiHU2 Modules can turn your PC or Laptop into a WiFi Wireless Access Point

SAN JOSE, CA. - March 13, 2012 - One of the leaders in the modem industry, Radicom Research, just announced today the release of WiFiHU2 series of USB WiFi modem modules. With the WiFiHU2 modules, WiFi connectivity can easily be added to virtually any processor-based device. WiFiHU2 supports the latest wireless standards including 802.11b/g/n, all through a USB 2.0 interface, at a price normally found for last-generation wireless hardware.

With reliable transmissions, protocol stack and use of 2TX/2RX MIMO antenna technology, these high speed USB wireless devices achieve over-the-air data throughput up to 300Mbps downstream and 300Mbps upstream PHY rates using 40MHz bandwidth.

The WiFiHU2 family supports fast receiver Automatic Gain Control (AGC) with synchronous and asynchronous control loops among antennas, antenna diversity functions, and adaptive transmit power control functions to obtain better performance in the analog portions of the transceiver.

The WiFiHU2 series feature Soft AP support. It can turn your Internet Connected PC or Laptop into a WiFi Wireless Access Point. As a result, nearby WiFi devices such as the iPhone, iPod, and Smart Phones can connect to the Internet through your sharing.

It is designed for industrial OEM use. It features -40°C to +85°C extended operating temperatures in a small footprint, and it comes with WEP/WPA/WPA2 security protocols to protect the host. Other specifications include firmware/configuration parameters stored in on-board NVRAM and low overall power consumption.

“With increasing demand for wireless communications, today’s OEM manufacturers are facing growing competition to cost effectively enhance their products with wireless connectivity.” says Alex Tsau, VP Operations at Radicom Research “Focused on servicing OEM’s, Radicom continues to innovate and add enhanced features such as –40°C to +85°C operating temperatures and Soft-AP support without extra charges to OEM's. Along with our strong support staff, Radicom always provides fast engineering and manufacturing turnaround to OEM customers.”

Radicom’s WiFiHU2 series comes in two models: WiFiHU2-a and WiFiHU2-c. WiFiHU2-a has dual-chip antennas built in to eliminate the need for costly and time-consuming RF development, which creates a faster time to market. WiFiHU2-c has two U.FL connectors to attach antenna cables and antennas. This gives OEM engineers the flexibility to place antennas in locations best suited to their design.
