MEETING MINUTES

MAHWAH RECREATION COMMITTEE

Chairman Harry Williams called the meeting to order at 7:10 pm.

Roll call was taken and members in attendance were: Jean Lascar, Terry Mostyn, Julia Smithand Harry Williams. Recreation Director Dawn DaPuzzo was also in attendance.

The flag salute was followed by the Sunshine Law announcement. On a motion by Terry Mostyn, seconded by Jean Lascar, the meeting minutes of May 28, 2008 were approved. All in favor, motion carried.

Chairman’s Opening Statement

New members for the committee – we are in critical need of new members. Please continue to ask people to join. We will write a press release for the newspapers and cable tv. Reorganization should take place at next month’s meeting.

Old Business

Home Depot – no update

Softball – all is going well

New Business

Paddle Days – MJ has asked for sand and a picnic table, Dawn will contact the DPW. MJ needs help at Paddle Days, Tuesday nights at 5:30. Julia and Dawn can help out, and Harry will try if home early from work. We will use Polaroids at the lake, since there is no electricity for printers. Terry suggested getting a generator for future printer use. Discussed items needed, such as numbered tickets for line control, a megaphone and first aid kits.

Senior Picnic – The Senior Picnic will be on July 17 at 12:00. Set up should begin at 9:30. Julia reviewed last year’s supply list. She spoke with Greg and there are not many supplies left over from last year. Discussed buying new utensils and storing them in a big container marked “Senior Picnic”. Terry will help Julia shop for supplies. Dawn spoke with the Administrator about setting up accounts with vendors so we can use purchase orders. Dawn and Terry will look into doing so with stores like ShopRite or the A & P, Wal-Mart, Costco, Restaurant Supply, and Party Fair. Joanne will make a purchase order out to Millie for line dancing. Drew will bring the grill again this year. We will need extra picnic tables, garbage cans and a DPW worker to help out. The Mayor, John DaPuzzo and Terry usually cook. We’ll need iced tea, water and lemonade containers.

Movie Nights – Movie Nights will be Tuesdays in July at 8:00, beginning July 8. Ward will Chair, George will Co-Chair.

Senior Report – Trips are scheduled for the JerseyShore on July 15, and Ellis Island on August 13.

Recreation Director’s Report

No report.

On a motion by Jean Lascar, seconded by Julia Smith, the meeting was adjourned at 8:20 pm. All in favor, motion carried.

The next meeting will take place on July 23, 2008, at 7:30 pm in the Recreation building.
