Challenges for Marketing professionals

Some evidence of research is desirable, though your responses should reflect your own thinking on the issues reflected in these questions. Please do not use quotations or reproduce others’ work. Your goal should be to convince the panel that you have a thoughtful orientation to critical issues facing your profession.

Please answer ONE of the following THREE questions (maximum length ofanswer 300 words):

Q.1.As director of marketing of a medium-sized Australian sporting goods manufacturer that produces helmets for use in sports, such as cycling, cricket and football, you have been considering using the internet as a marketing tool. Although your helmets are sold in retail stores and to schools and athletic programs across Australia, you believe the company could reach a bigger audience and sell more helmets if the company also sold the product online at the company’s website. What arguments would you use to convince the CEO that online marketing is a good strategy?

Q.2.You have been hired to do some marketing research for a confectionery company that sells its products mainly to children of all socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. The company is leaning towards using the internet to conduct the research. Its reasoning is that web-based marketing research is easier, faster and cheaper than more traditional methods. Why might you persuade the company to think otherwise?

Q.3.Imagine that you are the Australian marketing manager for a product similar to the US example of General Foods’ Cool Whip frozen dessert topping. Marketing research indicates that nearly three quarters of all Australian households use your product, but the average user only buys it four times a year and uses it on only seven per cent of all toppable desserts. What marketing strategy (or strategies) would you recommend and why? What specific marketing actions would you propose to implement that strategy?
