Welcome to the spring newsletter. We have a range of different events on offer, as well as our usual training sessions at Moreton. The season has got off to a good start with the sell-out camp at Moreton during Easter week, kindly organised for us by Sue Russell. This will raise some much-needed funds for our teams. Apologies to all our members for the dreadful state of our website. We are hoping to have it all sorted out in the next month. Contact any committee members for information on our events. TEAM NEWS

We sent teams to the two indoor competitions this year, the Dressage on 8 January and the Showjumping on 4 March. The junior novice dressage team was placed 6th, with Rosie Russell individual 2nd and Dionne Slack individual 6th in the juniors and Kathy Laurence individual 3rd in the Seniors. The showjumping at Crofton Manor was a tricky day, with a lot of rain, making warm-up particularly difficult. We entered a Senior novice team who were placed 4th (with only 3 riders) out of 15. Two junior teams were entered and the Blue team won the event, beating the IOW and New Forest teams. This team, of Holly Laurence, Maddie Morris, Sophie Elford and Hannah Dunn, will now progress to the National Championships at Hartpury on 7 April. In addition, Kathy Laurence and Maddie and Jakie Morris qualified for the Royal Windsor Horse show as individuals. Congratulations to all of them.

TRAINING

Spring/summer training at Moreton

For beginners/novice/young horses: 6 to 7.30pm with Deirdre Cox on Thursdays 19/4, 17/5, 14/6, 19/7, 9/8. Sessionswill cover flatwork and/or jumping and will be tailored to suit participants.Cost £5.00, numbers will be limited. Contact Deirdre on 01305 848241.

Flatwork sessions with Ben Lyles or Millie Tonks.6 to 7 pm on 9/4, 7/5, 4/6, 2/7 and 6/8. Cost £12.00, numbers will be limited. Contact Kath Laurence on 01929 405937 to book.

Jumping sessions with Ben Lyles or Millie Tonks.6 to 8 pm on 16/4, 28/5, 18/6, 23/7 and 20/8. Cost £12.00, numbers will be limited. Contact Kath Laurence on 01929 405937 to book.

EVENTS

Explore Dorset on our Summer Rides! We are organising a series of monthly rides at different locations in the county. These will be guided rides and not too strenuous. The first will start from Troytown Farm on Wednesday 23 May at 10 am. Contact Catherine Dyer or Deirdre Cox to book by Sunday 20th.

Have-a-go La Trek at Moreton on 9th June. A chance to try your hand at the different skills involved in this popular event. More details later.

First Aid Awareness course at Troytown Farm on Saturday 16 June at 4 pm.

Following his very popular talk at the 2010 AGM, Kevin Prince, PDRC member and professional first aid trainer, has kindly agreed to run a short first aid awareness course for us. To include a certificate. Light refreshments. £5 but numbers limited. To book, please phone Deirdre Cox (01305 848241) by 9 June.

Tack Day at Troytown Farm on Saturday 28 July at 2 pm. Does your tack fit properly? Local saddle fitter Max Sayers will be giving a talk and demonstration on fitting saddles and bridles, including taking a saddle apart. We are also hoping to have Dorset Police to do tack marking and a small scale tack sale. Cost £5. To book, please email or phone Catherine Dyer (01305 262132) by 23 July.

Dorset Equine Vets Client Evening Thursday June 28th, 7.00pm

Painted Horse Demonstration by Gillian Higgins

To be held at Dorset Equine, Whitcombe Monymusk Racing Stables, Dorchester

Gillian Higgins is the founder and creator of “The Painted Horse”, an amazinglive demonstration of equine anatomy. Gillian paints the skeleton andmusculature on to demonstrator horses to provide a fascinating insight intothe anatomy and biomechanics of the moving horse.

Raffle with fantastic prizes and all proceeds going to local charities.
