Good morning the distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen
First of all I would like to welcome you all to Vientiane, Lao PDR and to the 9th NADI Annual Meeting, and thank you all for accepting our invitation to participate in this meeting.
On behalf of the Military Science and History Department, and as the chair, I am very pleased and honored to preside this meeting. Our meeting this year is critically important because it is taking place just after the realization of the ASEAN Community, and it is the first year of the implementation of the ASEAN 2025: Forging Ahead Together, particularly the ASEAN Political and Security Community Blueprint 2025, which aims to ensure that the peoples and member states of ASEAN are able to live in peace with one another and with the world at large in a just, democratic and harmonious environment.
Since the establishment of NADI, our meeting has played an important role in building confidence and familiarity among the ASEAN think tanks and research institutions to facilitate closer defense and security cooperation and providing policy proposals and recommendations to ASEAN Defense Ministers’ Meeting ( ADMM ).
As the ASEAN chair as well as the ADMM chair, we intend to play a constructive role in enhancing closer cooperation not only among the ASEAN defense establishments, but also and the Plus countries in strengthening regional peace, stability and development. In this conjunction, this year’s meeting has been organized under the theme: “Vision on ASEAN Defense and Security Cooperation Beyond ASEAN Economic Community Establishment”.
In order to contribute to the realization of the abovementioned theme, this meeting will discuss the following key topics:
-  Regional Political and Security Outlook: new emerging trends and challenges
-  Enhancing Defence Cooperation in handling non-traditional threats and challenges posing to the future development of the ASEAN Community
-  Maintaining ASEAN Defence Cooperation for a Dynamic ASEAN Economic Community and other relevant matters.
Ladies and gentlemen
