INSTITUTIONAL MISSION STATEMENT OF THE FOUNDATION "HELP FOR THE ANDES"
"Our mission is to enhance the quality of life for individuals and communities, through focusing on programs that strengthen organizations, reinforce networks of communication and increase knowledge."
"Our primary objective is to improve the lives of the disadvantaged and the suffering by improving health, education, living conditions, communication skills, social behaviour and social adjustment."
OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT
The main objective of this Project is to improve the conditions of life of the less fortunate and to alleviate the suffering by means of better health, education and development conditions.
GEOGRAPHICAL AREA OF THE PROJECT
Country: CHILE, PERU.
Region: Metropolitan and Andes Region,
Districts: Santiago Center, Recoleta and Independencia – Lima Districts Andes Region.
The chosen districts are those with a greater population of Peruvian, Bolivian and Chilean women and migrants.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT
Our project proposes the training of Andean women of limited resources in Chile and Peru to improve the conditions of the education and maternal health and of its infants.
Experts say that education develops the human potential; we look to help the woman of limited resources incorporate in the building of a decent society. Education influences the woman’s economic participation and in the adquisitive power, as well as the number of children that they have and the health that these children will have in the future.
We believe firmly that education and health is the key that all every person needs to reach a personal, family, social and economic development. Education and health will elevate the quality of life and the vision of an improved life in the future.
NOTE: The population of Peruvian immigrants in the districts, Santiago Center, Recoleta and Independencia in the Metropolitan Area is approximately 40 thousand people. Of this population 15% correspond to minors in age, children of migrants brought from Peru or that have been born in this country.
We know that the education that is presently given will provide them with the option, in a short span of time, to chose a worthy vocation, and which will generate a virtuous circle that will benefit each individual, their family and their environment. These opportunities will allow them to leave the marginality that they presently live in.
TYPE OF ACTIVITY
1) A Training Program developed in strategic alliance with educational institutions of Chile and Peru including basic courses of Personal Development and Assistant Nurse or Nurses Aid, as well as Computer Basics, First Aid, Art and Secondary Education.
BENEFICIARIES OF THE PROJECT
This Project is designed for high vulnerable sectors of District of Lima Peru and of Santiago’s districts, Santiago Center, Recoleta and Independencia, of a low social-economic state. These groups that we will help are mostly single or separate mothers, who have the responsibility of being the head of household and have been forced to be able to provide food, housing, clothing and education for their children.
In the case of the population of immigrants that consist in Santiago's districts, Santiago Center, Recoleta and Independencia are composed, in its majority, of Peruvians that arrived in our country, without a definite future, without work, without complete basic and secondary schooling, some are unqualified technicians.
PROJECTION
The worst threat for a woman's health and that of her family is ignorance. One of the best preventive medicines is education and training, which is like an indispensable tool to diminish sicknesses and Maternal Mortality, which is an alarmingly high percentage in neighbouring countries.
