Project I.U.3- Performance Objectives and Assessment

“Moon Shine”

A Six-Grade project on the Cyclical Phases of The Moon

CN=ConditionB=BehaviorCR=Criteria

Instructional Goal / Instructional Goal with Performance Context
Goal: Students will explain the cyclical phases of the moon in relation to the earth’s position. / Through the use a multimedia-presentation, video and images(CN), the student will correctly identify and place the eight major phases ofthe moon (B) and their positions relative to the earth and sun (CR).
A rubric will be used to assess part of task, as well multiple choice questions.
Steps in Instructional Goal / Performance Objectives for Steps
I.Students will identify Waxing and Waning phases and decide the correct placement of image in relation to the Earth and the Sun / Using a web-page on the phases of the Moon (CN), the student will decide (multiple choice) if image is Waxing or Waning and correctly identify (B) image and its correct position in relation to the Earth and Sun (CR).
II. Students will identify Waxing or Waning Gibbous and decide the correct placement of image in relation to the Earth and the Sun. / Using a web-page on the phases of the Moon
(CN), the student will decide (multiple choice) if image is Waxing or Waning Gibbous and correctly identify (B) image and its correct position in relation to the Earth and Sun (CR).
III. Students will demonstrate knowledge of the Moon phases by pasting the four major waxing phases of the Moon in the proper position according to the percentage of illuminatedsurface area. / Using a web-page on the phases of the Moon(CN), the student will demonstrate knowledge of the four major Waxing phases of the Moon (B) and correctly paste image according to the percent of surface illumination (B).
IV.Students will demonstrate
Knowledge of the Moon phases by pasting the four major waning phases of the Moon in the proper position according to the percentage of illuminated surface area. / Using a web-page on the phases of the Moon(CN), the student will demonstrate knowledge of the four major Waning phases of the Moon(B) and correctly paste image according to the percent of surface illumination(B).
Assessment for step I: Multiple choice questions

Students will beassessed using multiple choice questions to determine knowledge of the Waxingand WaningMoon phases. Students will be able to identify and decide the correct position of the Moon phases in relation to the Sun through multiple choice questions.Students should be able to answer three (5) out of five (5) questions to demonstrate mastery of the “Waning” phases. (Criteria 1 through 3 only)

1).What phase of the moon is this?

Assessment for step III: Poster board
  • Students will begin the activity by pasting the Earth in the center and the right of the Sun, indicating the correct alignment of the beginning of the Cyclical Moon phases.
  • Students will demonstrate knowledge of the Moon phases by identifying the four major waxing phases of the Moon according to the percentage of illuminated surface area.
  • Students will paste the Waxing Moonphases in the sequence, beginning with the New Moon (0% illumination), and ending with Waning Crescent (25% illumination).
  • Student will need to 4 of 4Waxing phases to demonstrate 100%mastery
  • Students will need to complete the task without prompts from the multi-media program and/or instructor, and complete the*poster board (assessment) with the correct sequenceof the Moon phases (Shape and percent illumination).

In relation to Earth and Sun.

Assessment for step IV: Poster board
