Program: March and April Are Paper Months

Next General Meeting: Wednesday March 9, 2016 at 7:00 p.m., Tett Centre for Creativity and Learning

Program: March and April are paper months.

This month travel with Bridget to the Elephant Conservation Centre inNorthern Thailand and experience paper making with a difference. You will experience the process from start to finish.

On April 2 join the workshop and learn to spin paper with Beth Showalter (contact Norma Rosier or Jackie Sylvester to register and confirm your space). The April13th meeting program will continue the paper theme. Check the newsletter at the end of March for further details.

If time allows we will look at some of the Internet based fibre sites.

May meeting is our AGM and the 2015 - 2016 KHWS Guild Challenge

The topic for the 2015 - 2016 challenge is Inspiration from Within (the Guild). The idea is to find inspiration from one or more of this year’s programs to make a woven, felted or spun item, a basket, paper or a silk fusion piece.

The topics include: eco dyeing, silk fusion, discharge dyeing, felting, paper making, marbling.

Submit a written explanation of how you were inspired by a program, along with the item for judging.

Barbara Wigle Estate Sale

Thanks to all those who helped at the sale on January 30th. Also thank you to all those who shopped well. We were able to raise almost $5000.00 for the guild. We hope to support the educational activities of the guild with these funds.

The Great Wheel is still available. If you are you interested – make an offer.

Tea Towel Project

Thank you to Jocelyne for warping and threading the loom at the guild with tea towels. The yarns came from Barb’s stash of lovely cottons. We have enough warp for 14 towels. The cost is $10.00 for each towel, which gives you a yard of warp and enough weft to complete the project. If you are interested in weaving a tea towel please let Bridget know. We hope to have several woven a week, then we will put on another warp of different colours. All funds go towards guild activities.

SALES….SHARING OUR PASSIONS…

KHWS has now officially signed up to participate in Artfest Kingston, taking place on the July 1, 2, 3 long weekend. We are planning to have demonstrations of weaving and spinning and perhaps more. There will also be opportunities for visitors to try their hand at these.

We will also have things to sell. 40,000 visitors are expected to pass through and it would be awesome if everyone could buy at least one item made by our group.

So please start creating – skeins for knitting, tea towels, placemats, lightweight shawls and scarves, blankets, summer weight clothing, table runners, rag rugs, tapestries, shoelaces, purses, bookmarks, bags, greeting cards, tablet cases, cell phone holders, etc., etc. - whatever you can think of.

The sale will be run in a similar fashion to that of our Fall Sale with consignment sheets, sale tags, quality control etc.

We will need volunteers on the sales' desk, to demonstrate and to man the floor. I'll be contacting you with details as we get closer to the event.

Contact Lena if you can help, have any questions or have good ideas and suggestions.
