PROFITMASTER 23 INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

INSTALLATION TYPES

ProfitMaster can be run as a self-contained setup on a single machine, or in a setup where several users connect to a central machine. The Standalone type installs all ProfitMaster components onto a single machine. Alternatively, ProfitMaster can be installed as a Server on a central machine and as a Client on a remote machine.

In a Client-Server setup, the ProfitMaster models are stored on the server machine and can be accessed by all clients. In a Standalone installation the models are stored on the local machine and can only be used by the ProfitMaster application on that machine.

If you are installing ProfitMaster 3 as a Standalone or Server setup, you must have local administration rights on the machine onto which you are installing. This is not necessary for a Client installation.

BEFORE STARTING A STANDALONE OR SERVER INSTALLATION

ProfitMaster requires a directory for its model (scenario) files. If the installation machine already has ProfitMaster installed as Standalone or Server, it will already have a directory containing ProfitMaster models. When installing ProfitMaster 3 while an older version is still live it, it is advisable to use a separate models directory for testing, because once a model has been saved in ProfitMaster 3 it cannot later be reopened in an earlier version.

Create a new directory to hold the ProfitMaster 3 models. If there is an older version of ProfitMaster on the machine, copy all the files in its models directory to the new directory you have just created. The new version will work with files in the new directory. The old version will continue to work with the original files in the current directory.

RUNNING THE INSTALLER

Note that if you already have ALMeter installed on your machine and are re-installing, you will need to run the installer twice, once to remove the old version and once to install the new version.

1.  Run Setup.exe on the distribution CD.

2.  Accept the licensce agreement when prompted.

3.  You will be prompted for the folder in which to install the application. Click Next to accept the default, or edit the name first if you wish to change it.

4.  You will be prompted for the type of installation. See Installation Types above.

SERVER AND STANDALONE INSTALLATION

5.  Select Server Installation or Standalone Installation when prompted for installation type and click Next.

6.  Enter the number of licenceslicenses (users), select the optional modules according to your individual contract and click Next. If you are unsure of the number of user licenses or modules for your organisation, please check with your ProfitMaster representative.

7.  Select the directory in which models are to be stored. This should be the new models directory you created (see above). Make sure you have the directory set up before completing this step. Click Next.

8.  You will be prompted for the name of the Start folder in which to place shortcuts. Click Next to accept the default, editing the name first if you wish to change it.

9.  Click Finish to complete the installation.

CLIENT INSTALLATION

5.  Select Client Installation when prompted for installation type and click Next.

6.  When prompted, enter the name of the machine on which the Server is running. You may click Get Server List to query the network for installed ProfitMaster servers, and select a server from the list. This does not always find the installed server (it depends on the network configuration). Machines with Standalone installations will not appear on this list. If the list remains blank, just type in the network name of the server machine.

7.  You will be prompted for the name of the Start folder in which to place shortcuts to the programs. Click Next to accept the default, editing the name first if you wish to change it.

8.  Click Finish to complete the installation.

AFTER INSTALLATION

CLIENT OR STANDALONE ADHOC REPORTS

When using the Adhoc Reports facility in the ProfitMaster application, a displays.idx file is created in the application directory containing a profile of table and format pairs that make up your named adhoc reports. To use a profile from a previous ProfitMaster installation, you must copy the displays.idx file from the old install directory to the new one.

STANDALONE OR SERVER INSTALLATION REVIEW

To review and modify the ProfitMaster installation, launch the ProfitMaster Administration Tool from the Start menu. This tool has three sections, the Activation Manager, the Directory Manager and the Server Manager.

In the main tool you will see the company name, number of user licenses and optional features settings that were supplied during the installation. These can be changed using the Activation Manager, but you will need a new serial code and ProfitMaster license agreement to make changes to these.

The Directory Manager shows the models directories. You can add to or update these, but you must always make sure that a default directory is present. The different directories are accessed using the three letter codes you assign to them here. The directory code can be supplied as a parameter to the ProfitMaster Native application, or to the main Windows application when it is first run.

The Server Manager shows current active ProfitMaster usage. This can be used in case of license shortages to show which machines are running ProfitMaster.
