PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT STIPEND: STUDENT MEMBER

Application Deadline: September 15, 2017

Purpose: The Executive Committee of the Dietitians in Integrative and Functional Medicine Dietetic Practice Group (DIFM DPG) believes it is important for DIFM DPG members to attend and/or participate in professional educational events related to integrative, functional and holistic medicine or nutrition, nutritional genomics, whole foods, dietary supplements, and natural healing modalities (“required focus”) in order to enhance our members’ knowledge and increase the visibility of the DIFM DPG in the integrative health and nutrition community.

Implementation: To encourage DIFM DPG members to attend/participate in a professional development meeting in the required focus area described above, one professional development stipend will be given annually to a DIFM student member. A stipend of $250 will be provided to the successful applicant to be used toward meeting and/or travel expenses.

Criteria:

1.A member who has previously received the stipend may not reapply for three membership years.

2.Members may select the meeting they wish to attend. The meeting must have a primary topic related to the required focus.

3.The meeting must be held and attended prior to May 1, 2018.

Requirements and Procedures:

  1. Applicants must apply in writing using the application below by September 15, 2017. Applications are submitted via email to Nominating Chair and the Nominating Committee. Selection of the recipients of the stipends are made by the Nominating Committee.
  2. Members selected for the stipend will be required to submit an article (~1200 word count) summarizing the meeting highlights and pertinent information learned. This article is due within a month of the meeting and will be published in the DIFM newsletter, The IntegrativeRDN. Awardees must contact the Editor, Sarah Laidlaw, for article format, at .
  3. To facilitate selection of the stipend winner, a brief proposal of the newsletter article is required. This proposal should be based on the topic or focus of the meeting to be attended, and list goals/objectives and benefits to DIFM members.
  4. All applicants will receive notice of the result of their application by email from the Nominating Committee no later than October 15, 2017.
  5. The monetary award shall be issued within 10 days of receipt of the required written newsletter report.
