PARKING TIPS

Time Limits are necessary to allow as many people as possible to have access to an area.

  • You must move your vehicle once the time limit has expired. If you stay longer than the time allowed you can be fined.
  • Do not stop any time in a No Stopping, Bus or Taxi zone. (IS THIS A PARKING TIP)
  • Do not park in a Loading Zone unless you are driving a vehicle that is authorised to use these zones. (See tips below)
  • Do note park in Disabled Parking Baysunless your vehicle displays a valid disabled permit.
  • Apply to the Council for a [type of] permit if you arecarrying out worksand need to park in a restricted parking bay for a longer period. Penalties apply without a valid permit

Disabled Parking Permits

Permits are available from council for use by people with disabilities. The permit allows the holder to use parking areas specifically for disabled people or to park continuously in a parking area for twice the period indicated on the sign.

Loading zone guidelines

A driver must not stop in a loading zone unless the driver is driving:

  • A truck that is dropping off, or picking up goods; or
  • A courier vehicle displaying a courier vehicle sign; or
  • A delivery vehicle displaying a delivery vehicle sign; or
  • A vehicle that is dropping off, or picking up, goods which is constructed principally for carrying loads, and is not a sedan, station wagon or motor bike;
  • A public passenger vehicle or taxi that is dropping off, or picking up passengers
  • If a sedan or station wagon is using a loading zone it must have a business name permanently marked on the sides of the vehicle.
  • If your vehicle is authorized do not stay more than 30 minutes when there is no limit specified

PARKING RESTRICTIONS

Parking restrictions exist to give people fair access to shops and community facilities, keep emergency areas, clearways andschool crossings clear,helpthe flow of traffic andallow residents to park locally.

There are arange of parking options provided in the Castlemaine central business district (CBD) including short term 15 minute bays, loading zones, longer stays of two hours and all day parking.

Look for the time limits shown on kerbside signs and at entrances to parking areas.

Check parking signs every time you park your car, even if you are familiar with the area. There may be several different restrictions operating in one street. For example Mostyn Street has:

  • Free one hour areas
  • 15minute parking
  • Disabled parking bays
  • Loading zones
  • No stopping areas
  • Taxi zone
  • Bus zone short term 15

All day parking is available at the Gingell Street car park, just a few minutes walk from the CBD.

The parking area is located to the west of the Castlemaine Train Station and is convenient for those who commute by train or work in the CBD.

Go through the pedestrian tunnel under the rail pass and along X Street to get to the CBD.
