MAIN RELATIONSHIPSARTISTIC DIRECTOR, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, TECHNICAL MANAGER, ASSOCIATE PRODUCER, ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR, HEAD OF WORKSHOP, COSTUME SUPERVISOR, FREELANCE DESIGNERS AND CONTRACTORS

The overall responsibility of the Production Manager is to deliver efficiently and effectively all aspects of certain WC productions. In addition to the Production & Technical Director this involves close liaison with both the Artistic Director and Executive Director, the Associate Producer and all production Heads of Department and creative teams.

These responsibilities involve a number of key activities as outlined below:

Administration

  • To participate in all departmental administrative and HR systems as required
  • To lead on the creation of technical riders and collation of other production paperwork for allocated touring work
  • To carry out administrative tasks that arise from the job

Budgets

  • To work with the Production & Technical Director on initial planning and costing of allocated productions and projects
  • To manage productions to within budget
  • To generate accurate budget forecasts in conjunction with the production staff and outside contractors.
  • To monitor expenditure on allocated productions and communicate any areas of concern in a timely fashion during weekly meetings with the Production & Technical Director.

Health and Safety

  • To produce risk assessments and other relevant H&S paperwork as appropriate following the CDM regulations of 2015
  • To ensure that designs and all aspects of the productions comply with Health and Safety and other applicable legislation
  • To ensure that all production operations are carried out in compliance with relevant and applicable Health & Safety legislation and any other applicable statutory regulations or legislation
  • Alongside the other production heads, keep an overview on the good maintenance of the technical infrastructure and equipment managed by the department
  • To remain current with industry best practice and applicable technologies

Production

  • To act as Production Manager for certain Wiltshire Creative productions, as allocated by the Production and Technical Director.
  • To provide production support for the work of other departments, including the Take Part department and events during the Salisbury International Arts Festival
  • To work across both buildings and at other venues as required.
  • To work with the creative teams and Producers of allocated productions to realise the project within allocated resources
  • To ensure that resources and parameters are clearly defined and agreed with creative teams, Producers and Production HODs
  • To carry out an assessment at the white card model and final design stages to ensure that the design does not exceed the agreed parameters
  • If necessary to work with the creative team to bring the design within agreed parameters by the final model stage
  • To plan construction in conjunction with freelance staff and the Head of Workshop.
  • To plan the use of technical resources in conjunction with the Technical Manager, Company Stage Manager and other production staff
  • To plan and manage, in conjunction with the HODs and production team, fit ups, production periods and get outs for allocated productions
  • To call and chair production meetings for allocated productions
  • To ensure Wiltshire Creative productions are delivered in a positive, collaborative and professional manner
  • Actively contribute to the effective operation of the Production Department’s work

General

  • To always act in the best interests of Wiltshire Creative

CANDIDATE SPECIFICATION

Essential

  • Significant senior level experience in theatre production
  • A proven track record of delivering projects to the highest level of artistic and production value
  • A good knowledge of production and technical techniques including construction, rigging, lighting, sound and projection
  • CAD drafting skills (AutoCAD).
  • Excellent financial and budgetary control
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Ability to multitask
  • Problem solver
  • Ability to prioritise and cope with last minute changes
  • Demonstrable calm, clear leadership skills
  • The ability to nurture the skills of individuals under their supervision.
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and procedures as related to the theatre industry and proven experience of implementing these legislative requirements in a positive and sympathetic manner.
  • Computer literate, fluent in the use of MS Office applications.
  • Ability to work well within a small dedicated production team and be hands on when required.
  • Ability to work with and support all other departments.
  • An ability to remain, calm, professional and positive when working under pressure.

Desirable

  • H&S qualification or training (IOSH or equivalent)
  • First aid training.
  • Experience of working with young people and community groups
  • Knowledge of touring
  • Experience of site-specific / outdoor event management
  • Full clean driving licence
  • An interest in and enthusiasm for theatre and other performance art forms

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  • Salary:£30,000.00
  • Hours:Average 40 hours per week to be worked as required
  • Holiday:20 days holiday plus 8 days public holidays rising in line with

length of service.

  • Term:Fixed term 12 month contract subject to probationary period of three

months.

  • Pension:Wiltshire Creative offers a pension scheme through People’s Pension, whereby contributions will be deducted from salary and is currently matched by Wiltshire Creative up to 1.5% of salary rising in line with auto-enrolment regulations.

Wiltshire Creative is legally obliged to auto-enrol all eligible employees into this scheme after three months’ employment, although the employee has the right to ‘opt out’.
