Position Summary:

The Production Engineer Intern will assist manufacturing processes with plant functions while increasing their skills and knowledge in a chemical plant environment. This position will work closely with the manufacturing departments to find operational and associate related improvements. This is a project-based internship with emphasis on learning the organization and building leadership skills in order to transition into a Team Manager position with responsibility for hourly production associates in the manufacturing/operations area.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with identifying and implementing manufacturing improvements including, but not limited to, equipment installation and/or modification.
  • Work closely with associates to find, develop and implement operational or procedural improvements.
  • Understandand analyze the manufacturing and personnel processes of various departments as assigned.
  • Monitor and improve the efficiency, output and safety of a manufacturing process by making observations and measurements directly as well as extracting and interpreting data from the other technical and operating staff involved.
  • Perform rotational assignments in various departments as assigned. This may include intern training in relation to process improvements, safety requirements, hazard analysis, and leadership development.

Education/Experience Required:

  • Pursuing Bachelors Degree in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical)
  • Good academic standing
  • Prior work experience (part-time, co-op, or internship) is preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership experience

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Excellent communication skills and relationship building ability
  • Flexibility to adapt to an ever changing business direction
  • Sound knowledge of engineering theory
  • Must be able to understand equipment, safety and personnel related interactions and the potential interaction conflicts (e.g. Machine guarding, proper vs. improper operation, safety vs. efficiency)
  • Must be able to communicate with associates and management with differing technical, cultural and language backgrounds
  • Creativity should not be bound by the nature of assignment or the associates and management connected with the assignment
  • Demonstrate leadership abilities while accomplishing the above responsibilities
