Pro Bono Opportunities at Legal Services of Greater Miami, Inc.
For students who are not able to volunteer as law clerks for an entire semester, we offer a variety of opportunities to complete your school’s pro bono requirement by assistinglow income individuals and families with civil legal problems. Many of these opportunities are available at our Main Office located at 3000 Biscayne Blvd, Suite 500 and our South Dade Office located at 11285 SW 211 Street, Suite 302.

Opportunity / Description / Hour CommitmentAssist pro bono attorneys / Legal research and drafting on a variety of legal issues to assist private attorneys who take pro bono cases. / 3-5 hours per case
Disability Case Preparation / Review Social Security disability files, outline medical records, and make a recommendation to staff regarding case merit based on Social Security regulations. / 5-10 hours per file
Landlord/Tenant Advice Line / Provide telephone advice to tenants living in private housing who face eviction or haveissues with rental unit conditions. Student must volunteer for at least two sessions per week for one month. / Minimum 3 hours per session
Naturalization Applications / Assist in completing naturalization applications for LSGMI clients, including any necessary legal research. / 1-2 hours per application
Off Site Intake / Conduct off-site intake interviews of clients at a homeless shelter. Student must commit to all weekly intakeat the site for one semester. / 2-4 hours per week
On Site Intake / Conduct walk-in and/or telephone intake interviews at LSGMI’s Main or South Dade office. Student must commit to one intake session per week for one month. / 4 hours per session.
Small Claims Clinic / Assist volunteer attorneys in interviewing clients at the Small Claims Clinic held every other Thursday evening from 5:30 – 7:30pm. Spanish and Creole speaking students can also serve as translators. / 2-3 hours per clinic
