April 3, 2011: Late morning flight to San Diego. Transfer to the San Diego Pier where we board the ms Rotterdam and prepare to set sail on our Grand Panama Canal adventure.

April 4/5: Enjoy two days at sea sailing the deep, blue waters of the Pacific. This is your chance to explore the luxurious Rotterdam. Holland America is often the highest rated cruise line with impeccable service, outstanding cuisine and fewer passengers than on the same sized ships. There are multiple restaurants, “As You Wish” dining (meaning you eat when you want), spas, pools, attractive public areas and more.

April6: Port of Call in beautiful Puerto Vallarta with its quaint Old Town, cobbled streets and bustling open markets. Nearby are rugged canyons and verdant jungles. Our optional, private Webb Tours shore excursion exposes you to canyons, beaches and jungle of the area (4 ½ hours). You’ll then have some time for shopping before you return to the ship.

April 7: At sea

April 8: Port of Call in Huatulco, Mexico. Warm sun, sandy beaches and NINE beautiful bays rimmed in every shade of blue. Our optional Webb Tours excursion will take us by Catamaran into five of the nine bays. We’ll see the famous blowhole then spend 30 minutes in Organo Bay. We’ll also visit peaceful Maguey Bay, Chahue Bay and others before returning to town for a chance to browse on your own.

April 9: Port of Call in Chiapas, Mexico. This is the gateway to the Mayan world of the Pacific, shrouded in jungle and mystery. Our optional private excursion takes us to the Mayan site of Izapa, dating to around 500 BC. One of the highlights is a chance to see the famous so-called “Tree of Life Stone” (Stela #5). This will be particularly interesting to LDS visitors. On the way back, we’ll visit a chocolate factory and see how cacao beans are transformed into chocolate. It is a very interesting day.

April 10: Port of Call in Puerto Quetzal, Guatemala. Our private excursion will take us to the colonial capital of Guatemala which is ANTIGUA. Surrounded by scenic volcanoes, Antigua is one of Central America’s most nostalgic cities, and in a lovely setting. A guide will share the history as we enjoy this gentle city. We’ll also visit one of the colorful local towns (San Antonio Aguas Calientes) for some fun browsing in a colorful, local market. Our excursion includes lunch at Santo Domingo, an authentic monastery converted into a five star hotel. This is ELEGANT and a very memorable meal (trust us). We’ll be out 5-6 hours today

April 11: At sea

April 12: Port of Call in Fuerte Amador, Panama for a few hours this evening. No private shore excursion today.

April 13: Full day transit of the Panama Canal from the Pacific Ocean, into the Miraflores and Pedro Miguel Locks, into the Gillard Cut, through the Gatun Lakes and exiting the canal through the Gatun Locks. We’ll enter the canal at 5:00 AM and exit at 7:00 PM. This is a FASCINATING (and beautiful) day from start to finish.

April 14: Port of call in Cartagena, Columbia. Your Webb Tours optional private excursion will show you this interesting port city with a stroll through the quaint old town, views of the the famous Bocachica Castle, some time for browsing and more. Cartagena was a famous port for pirates in the 16th and 17th centuries (as gold was being transported to Spain). It is an interesting place to visit.

April 15/16: At sea enjoying the turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea.

April 17: Arrive in Fort, Lauderdale, Florida and transfer to the airport for flights home. .
