Position: Upper School Assistant Principal Reports to: US Principal

Mission: To assist Christian parents by helping equip students to embrace biblical truth, strive for academic excellence, and model Christ-like leadership to influence their homes, churches, and communities for Christ.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Assistant Principal is viewed as a co-leader, assisting and supporting the campus Principal in the following areas:

Stakeholder Relationships:

·  Meet with parents, students and teachers on an as needed basis

·  Assist with investigations and student discipline

·  Communicate with parents about disciplinary matters regarding their son or daughter

·  Ensure a safe, orderly environment that encourages students to take responsibility for behavior and creates high morale among staff and students

·  Counsel students in academic, personal, and disciplinary matters

·  Establish a professional rapport with students and staff that garners their respect

·  Serve as a general appeal source or intermediary in academic and personal problems involving students

·  Enforce uniform policy and appearance policy so as to assure a school environment that is focused on group spiritual and academic achievement rather than on individuals

·  Assist Campus Ministries/Activities personnel with the assessment, planning, evaluation and implementation of student-centered activities, programs and services

Administration and Organization

·  Manage and evaluate effective and clear procedures for the operation and functioning of the Upper School consistent with the philosophy, mission, values and goals of the school including instructional programs and discipline systems to ensure a safe and orderly climate, building maintenance, program evaluation, personnel management, office operations, and emergency procedures

·  Ensure compliance with all laws, board policies and civil regulations

·  Assist in the oversight of the daily operation direction, and supervision of the Upper School faculty and students

·  Periodically review student policies and procedures

·  Use excellent written and oral English skills when communicating with students, staff, and parents

·  Assist Principal with department head and department meetings, pre- and post-planning meetings as well as Divisional and Institute meetings/training sessions

·  Complete in a timely fashion all records and reports as requested by the Principal, Assistant Head of School and/or Head of School

·  Maintain procedures for the safe storing and integrity of all public and confidential school records while protecting confidentiality of school records and information gained as part of exercising professional duties

·  Assist Principal in new applicant interview process

·  Assist Principal in maintaining an Upper School staff handbook and in preparing a student-parent handbook

·  Attend required committee meetings and extra school-sponsored functions

·  Perform any duties that are within the scope of employment and certifications, as assigned by the Principal

·  Contribute to school-wide decisions as an active member of the Leadership teams

·  Inform parents about school events and policies using newsletters, email, and informational meetings

·  Promote the church-school relationship

·  Involve staff in the identification of goals and activities necessary for professional growth

·  Complete new student interviews with prospective families

Curriculum and Instruction

·  Assist in the management of the instructional programs of the Upper School, evaluating lesson plans and observing classes on a regular basis to encourage the use of a variety of instructional strategies and materials consistent with research on learning

·  Assist Principal with teacher walkthroughs, formative observations and end of the year summatives

·  Oversee the development of curriculum with other members of the Academic Culture Team

·  Serve as a member of the academic team to interpret data and set goals to continually improve in all areas of the Upper School

·  Work with the campus pastor to guide and instruct the teachers to provide the Biblical and Worldview Integration inherent in an evangelical educational environment

·  Work with Assistant Head of Academics and Principal to promote continual improvement in instruction and best practices through PCA Institute and other outside staff training for faculty

·  Assist in the development/maintaining of teacher mentoring program

·  Assist with developing educational plans for academically at-risk students (non learning lab students)

·  Assist Principal and guidance office with monitoring student failures and plans for student success

·  Monitor/Develop interdisciplinary curriculum for grades 9-12 (test calendar and project matrix)

·  Assist in the development/maintaining of teacher mentoring program

Operations/ Budget and Finance

·  Assist Principal in maintaining procedures that provide for attractive, organized, functional, healthy, clean, and safe facilities

·  Communicate with the Principal regularly about the needs, successes and general operations of the school

·  Work with Operations personnel to assume responsibility for the security, and safety of pupils and faculty within the buildings

·  Continually refine procedures to promote security of property and equipment

·  Assist Principal in establishing and managing the Upper School budget, as needed

·  Work cooperatively with the business office regarding accurate records, purchase order processing, and other related fiscal matters

·  Make recommendations regarding personnel, space, material, and equipment needs

Co-curricular:

·  Assist the Principal in establishing and managing the Upper School Co-curricular Activities

·  Work cooperatively with athletic, activities, and fine arts department to cover events (including scheduling process) and assist with the training of students, teachers, and staff in regard to Kingdom Athletics

·  Develop and maintain a monitoring system of academic progress for students involved in co-curricular activities

·  Assist with developing and monitoring of specific curriculum for all activities, as needed

·  In addition, the assistant principal will carry out any other duties assigned by the Upper School Principal

Qualifications/Skills:

·  Master’s Degree in Education

·  Certified in Educational Leadership preferred or commensurate experience

·  Five or more years of successful teaching and/or administrative experience

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

·  Regularly sit, talk, walk, hear and to visually intercept visitors

·  Regularly use close and distance vision

·  Work at desk and computer screen for extended periods of time

·  Turn, bend, reach and may occasionally use a step stool or ladder

·  Be able to occasionally lift between 30-50 pounds

·  Work primarily in a traditional climate-controlled office environment with occasional outside travel between buildings and on trips
