DAC 2013Winter Meeting – NAS DME and Education Updates

General Updates

New Education RepresentativesI would like to introduce our newest Education Representative Michelle Wullstein. This is in addition toColleen Harryman and Cindy White who I introduced in Atlanta. All three have gone through some intense training and if you’ve attended any WebEx I’m sure their clarity in presenting Medicare regulations and requirements are shining examples of their knowledge. We are also in the process of hiring/recruiting one additional Education representative. One last addition to the Education and Medical Policy teams is Jodi Lian our Operational Coordinator. Jodi has been with NAS DME since 2007. Her background is primarily in claim processing but it’s so much more than that. Over the years she has become more of a claim processing expert and has a vast amount of knowledge. Since the end of September Jodi has done an amazing job organizing the education team to assist us in providing more outreach events. To summarize, now our Education team has a total of six education reps and one operational coordinator.

In-person Seminars
We’ll be trying out a new format for our in-person events in the next couple of weeks. We’re calling them Documentation and Dialogue. The morning will be dedicated to standard documentation requirements and the afternoon will have roundtables for various specific topics. For the next two events those topics will include:

  • Respiratory
  • Power Mobility Devices
  • Glucose Monitors and Testing Supplies
  • Appeals
  • Competitive Bidding (hosted by the CBIC)

We will also continue our Intake to Appeals in-person seminars as well, so we’ll have a mixture of events. The follow are currently scheduled but have more tentatively planned:

An additional seminar is planned for Torrance CA on March 5th which should be posted to our website sometime today. This will be an Intake to Appeals seminar and the cost is $70.00 per attendee.

During the week of our in-person seminars we are also conducting individual supplier visits based on reports we run for suppliers in the area with errors. Education will be doing these individual supplier visits in collaboration with our Medicare Review team and one or two MR Nurses will be in attendance at these visits.
