New Chief Operating Officer (COO)

San Francisco, CA (September 25, 2001) – Applied Science Fiction, Inc., (ASF™) creator of the award-winning Digital ICE™ technology, the leader of automatic photographic restoration applications and the inventor of the cutting-edge digital dry film processing (Digital PIC™) system, announces the addition of James Karlak to ASF’s senior management team.

"Today I am pleased to announce James Karlak as Chief Operating Officer of ASF. Jim’s strong background in financial management and operations and his relevant category experience make this an especially strong appointment for Applied Science Fiction. In this newly created position, Jim will manage the finance, administration, information systems and manufacturing operations departments,” said Dan Sullivan, ASF’s president and CEO. “He will also oversee the roll out of the service and support operations of ASF as we move into production and commercialization of our Digital PIC technology.”

Karlak brings with him a wealth of experience in the financial and operations areas in both large companies and start-ups. He was most recently CEO of DynaTouch, a firm in San Antonio, TX, specializing in information kiosks located in U.S. Government installations around the world. Prior to that he was president of E-Systems Medical Electronics, Inc.(EMED), a medical imaging systems company. He was also the CFO and vice president of operations of Shared Resources Exchange, Inc., a Dallas based PBX telephone switching start-up, where he managed the finance, IS, human resources and the manufacturing operations. He began his career with Texas Instruments, Inc. (TI) where he held multiple financial positions including controller of manufacturing operations and managed worldwide financial operations for a TI division. Karlak holds a Master of Business Administration and an undergraduate degree from the University of Texas.
