Facilities Support Assistant, Casual Role – Job Description

Salary:£9.75 an hour, paid at the London Living Wage (full time equivalent £19,009 working 37.5 hours a week).

Working hours:Casual hours working on a zero hour contract covering holidays, sickness, extra events and busy periods.

Location:Resource for London, 356 Holloway Road, London, N7 6PA. There will be some occasional travel within the UK (a few days a year) to attend Company events.

Resource for London

Owned by the Trust for London and managed by us The Ethical Property Company, Resource for London is situated on Holloway Road, tenminutes' walk from Holloway Road underground station and is where London's voluntary sector comes together to work, meet and exhibit.

The Centre provides flexible office space, conference, training and meeting rooms as well a variety of exhibition spaces. Each year over 1,500 meetings and events attracting over 150,000 people are held at the Centre providing the ideal environment for conferences, AGMs, smaller meetings, training and interviews.

The Post

You will be responsible for helping the centre to function effectively, ensuring rooms are set up appropriately and in good time, and that users’ technical needs are met.

You will be expected to contribute to the day to day running of the centre as a whole. You will join a team who are collectively responsible for providing professional, safe and appropriate space and facilities for the centre’s users.

The role is within the South East cluster staff team. The wider team is led by a Regional Manager, withvarious posts at different buildings. The team consists of a; Centre Manager, Facilities Manager, Receptionists, Facilities Support Assistants and Cleaners.

Duties will include, but not limited to:

  • Setting up conference and meeting rooms
  • Providing Audio Visual and Information Technology support for centre users
  • Acting as point of contact for tenants with queries / problems to report, establishing and maintaining excellent communication with tenants and centre users to ensure their satisfaction with the building and services
  • Tidying communal areas and arranging furniture and occasional cleaning duties as appropriate - when cleaners are absent
  • Making sure waste and recycling are managed well within the centre
  • Carrying out re-decoration and small repairs that do not require specialist training both for the communal areas and for individual tenants
  • Checking on stocks of cleaning materials, light bulbs, recycling supplies etc., preparing orders to keep stock at a good level and keeping accurate records
  • Assist the Centre Manager in ensuring the buildings are safe, pleasant and that the services are functioning
  • Carrying out porter duties
  • Testing fire alarms
  • Compliance with Health and Safety legislation
  • COSHH awareness (regulations regarding hazardous substances).

Other responsibilities:

  • Making suggestions on how to improve management and delivery of maintenance and services to tenants, how to achieve the company's social and environmental objectives, etc.

  • Attendance at company-wide events, including the staff conference, AGM, company training, etc.

Person Specification

This is a busy, demanding and responsible role that requires an individual with both customer service and practical skills, and a positive attitude. You need to be proactive and organised and show initiative when faced with difficult situations.

The person we are looking for will need:

  • Customer care skills with a commitment to provide a good service to our tenants and building users
  • Good IT skills, particularly Microsoft Office software
  • Previous experience in a similar post
  • Practical DIY skills, e.g. painting, putting up shelves, willing to do ‘a bit of everything’
  • Organisational skills and the ability to prioritise his/her work, multi-task and remain flexible
  • To be trustworthy, personable and reliable
  • The ability to act quickly and effectively using their own initiative
  • To be a team-player and a good communicator
  • To maintain a professional standard of presentation and communication with colleagues and tenants at all times
  • Health and Safety awareness and knowledge
  • Have some knowledge and interest in social and environmental issues, particularly recycling.

Contractual Details

Casual role working on a zero hourcontract

This is a zero hour’s contract, which means due to the nature of this role, there are no set or standard hours of work. We do not guarantee a minimum number of hours of work each week, and in a particular week you may receive no work at all from the Company.

We endeavour to provide as much notice in advance as reasonably practicable (normally not less than 24 hours) of the hours you will be required to work. We are under no obligation to offer you any working hours, and you are under no obligation to accept working hours.

The hourly rate for this role is £9.75 per hour, in line with the London Living Wage. Any hours worked will be paid in the next calendar month.

Benefits include 25 days holiday entitlement pro-rata for part-time and the first year, in addition to all public bank holidays.
