Summary

The Preservation Specialist assists the Archivist in the ongoing preservation of Tri Sigma’s historical records and memorabilia and supports the mission of the Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority National Archives to safeguard and preserve the records of Sigma Sigma Sigma, ensuring that the history and heritage of the Sorority is maintained.

Primary Duties

●In consultation with the National Archivist, takes lead in evaluating and reviewing archives for damage and preservation concerns.

●Instructs volunteers on proper conservation and preservation procedures.

●Oversees all conservation efforts for damaged materials.

●Oversees the preservation of materials to prevent future or further damage.

●Monitors and manages the environmental concerns for the archives.

Secondary Duties

●Assists in the efforts to maintain a collection policy for the archives. This includes soliciting, collecting, and organizing materials as stated in the policy under the direction of the Archivist.

●Assists in the creation of digital and physical exhibits for the Archives and National websites, and the Mabel Lee Walton House.

●Assists in the promotion the Archives through the use of creative marketing and social media tactics.

●All National volunteers are required to complete position training at the discretion of their staff counterpart.

●Coordinate with the Archivist to occasionally travel to Mabel Lee Walton house to to review and assess the archives.

●Other duties as assigned.

Expectations

●Uphold Volunteer Expectations as outlined by the National Organization.

●Express a three year commitment to the success of Marketing and Communication.

●Commit 6 hours each week to the position, with a monthly call with the Archivist.

Qualifications and Skills

QUALIFICATIONS

●Alumnae membership in Sigma Sigma Sigma.

●Ability to check and respond to emails at least twice per week

●Positive advocate of Sigma Sigma Sigma

●Must be a team player with a can-do attitude

●Experience working in the field of archives and/or historical preservation.

●Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Library Science, Historical Preservation, Museum Studies or similar preferred.

REQUIRED SKILLS

●Comfort and ease with Microsoft Office, Internet, Google Documents and teleconferencing.

●Motivated self-starter who is able to work with minimal supervision and as part of a team.

●Ability to take direction and work on deadlines.

●Attention to detail.
