Introduction

Congratulations!! You just won a trip to Botswana Africa sponsored by our local zoo. For the next couple days you and your group mates are going to travel to Botswana Africa and discover different wildlife and their habitats. How do you think animals adapt into the habitat in which they live?After you return you will give an informal presentation to the zoo committee about your findings! ENJOY YOUR TRIP!:)

The Task

You have now arrived at your destination in Botswana Africa. You only have a couple days to complete the task so you and your group members need to work together to get to your end result. For the next 2 days you are going to travel parts of Africa to discover the wildlife and their habitats. You and your group will have a field guide packet to complete during your stay. After your safari, you will return and give an informal PowerPoint presentation to the zoo committee about your findings.

The Process

  1. First, you will be assigned to a team of 4 students which will complete a Field Guide. Click here for field guide
  2. Each person is responsible for gathering their information for their given job page.
  3. Safari Expert – Click Here for list of websites

  5. Botanist Expert – Click here for list of websites
  6. Environmentalist Expert – Click here for list of websites
  7. Before you start you field guide you will collect your information using the following web template Click here for web template
  8. Take notes with your given expert resources using your web. Organization here is key.
  9. Identify the external features of the plants, animals, and habitats. You need to make sure you have at least 5 facts per topic. When you have completed this then you may move on to your Field Guide.
  10. From your web, you need to pick 3 of your favorite topics and collect your facts onto your field guide.
  11. You will record your amazing facts about your topic and include a photograph or illustration of each that you choose.
  12. Everyone in your group should work together to complete the following:
  13. Front and back cover page (use construction paper and be creative!)
  14. Table of contents.
  15. After everyone in your group returns from the safari, your group will have completed your very own Botswana Field Guide.
  16. When your group is finished staple the field guide booklet in this order:

  18. Title Page
  19. Table of Contents
  20. Botswana Fact Pages (pages 3,4,&5)
  21. Animal Study Pages (pages 6,7,&8)
  22. Botanist Study Pages (pages 9,10,&11)
  23. Environmentalist Study Pages (12,13,&14)
  24. Back Cover
  25. Sit and talk with your group about your findings, and decided who and what you are going to be telling the zoo officials.
  26. When everything is completed, you will share it with the zoo, describing all of the interesting information you recorded.
  27. You and your group will go through your field guide together presenting the facts that you found and showing us the pictures that you created.
  28. Speak clearly and pace yourself. Let us know what they important facts are about the topic.

Conclusion

Now that your safari experience has ended, you should have a good idea of some types of animals that are found in the Botswana Africa. You have also gained the experience of working with your classmates on a project.
