Prescott Chorale Joins the Vatican’s Sistine Chapel Choir

on September 21-24, 2017 for a unique performance at the

Detroit Opera House, in Detroit, Michigan

Special relationship with Prescott Chorale’s artistic director, Dennis Houser, led to the Sistine Chapel Choir’s invitation.

FromSeptember 21-24, members of the Prescott Chorale, under the baton of Dennis Houser, will be in Detroit, Michigan, to perform with the Sistine Chapel Choir in the beautifully-restored Detroit Opera House. After a 31-year absence from the United States, the Sistine Chapel Choir is being sent to the city of Detroit by Pope Francis to honor its remarkable renaissance. The coordinator for this unique event had worked with Maestro Houser during a previous concert tour and knew the high quality of his choral work. That reputation and subsequent recordings from the Prescott Chorale’s 2016 concert tour of Spain elicited this special invitation.

The Sistine Chapel Choir, also known as “The Pope’s Choir” is the oldest religious choral group in the world, having been established in the seventh century. Currently consisting of 22 adult men and 30 boy singers, this ensemble sings for the pope’s liturgies. As the Sistine Chapel Choir rarely leaves Rome, its presence in Detroit is a remarkable honor to that city. The opportunity to sing with this historical group is one which very few choirs have been given.

On Saturday, October 14 at 3 p.m. Prescott Chorale opens its four-concert season with “The First Art----Music Gives Voice to the Soul”, followed by the Chorale’s annual Christmas concerts on December 9 at 3 and 7:30 p.m. On April 21, the Chorale presents“Inspiring Music: Heroes and History,”and on June 9, closes the season with a “Return to Dresden” prior to the Chorale’s departure for its 2018 concert tour of Germany, Poland, and the Czech Republic. All concerts will take place at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. For tickets and further information on Prescott Chorale, go toprescottchorale.org
