Acworth Elementary is aSchool Wide Title I Program.Acworth Elementary has jointly developed this policy and compact with our parents to describe how we will support the important role of parents in the education of their children. In cases where the students reside in a Neglected and Delinquent residential facility, a representative from that Facility can serve as a proxy for the parent (s). At Acworth Elementary,we build capacity for parent/community involvement by implementing the six types of involvement: Parenting, Communications, Parent Volunteering, Learning at Home, Decision-making and Governance, and Collaboration and Exchanges in the Community. This policy will be distributed by the school website and in all student agendas.

Based on the requirements of ESEA Title I, Section 1118, and the needs identified by our parents and school staff surveys, we will provide reasonable support for parental involvement activities as parent may request. The following strategies were outlined:

  1. An annual Title I information session and other flexible scheduled meetings will be held through out the school year. These meetings will cover the following information:

  3. Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP)/School Improvement Status
  4. Parent’s right to know about Teacher and Paraprofessional qualifications
  5. Parent Information Workshops & Parent volunteering
  6. School policies and procedures
  7. School curriculum
  8. Student assessments
  9. Local and State assessments
  10. State content standards
  11. Transitioning from McCall Primary to Acworth Elementary, Acworth Elementary to BarberMiddle School.
  1. Parents will receive information from our school in their child’s home language in a timely manner. Acworth Elementary uses the following communication methods to provide parent with timely information:

  1. We encourage all families to be education partners in their children’s school success by:
  2. Inviting parents to attend all meetings by giving them the AcworthElementary Parent Involvement Activities Plan.
  3. Inviting parents to serve on committees such as the School Council, Family and Community Committee, Schools Strategic Plan Committee, Parent Policy/Compact Action Planning Committee, and the PTA.
  4. Inviting fathers to become involved in the Watch Dog Program.
  5. Providing meetings held during the school day and outside school hours. These dates and times are listed in theAcworth Elementary Parent Involvement Activities Plan.
  6. Visit our ParentResourceCenter;located in room 41M in the MediaCenterbetween9:00a.m. to1:00p.m. Monday-Fridaywhere materials are provided for check out. Various topics might include child devolvement, academic strategies, self help strategies, games and books to increase student achievement andcomputers available for research.
  1. Parents will be provided information on school performance and student’s individual assessments:
  2. Information on school performance is sent home by teachers through agendas and Thursday folders. Additional copies are available in theschool office and located on the school website.
  3. The results of individual students CRCT and ITBS are sent home with report cards. Acworth Elementary building resultswillbe located on the school website.
  4. Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held to further assist parents the opportunity to give input on how to work with their children.
  1. Parents and community members will be given timely responses to their concerns and suggestions.
  2. All concerns and suggestions submitted in writing or verbally are responded to in a timely manner. Concerns and suggestions regarding the School Wide Plan will be submitted to the Title I Office. Information from parent surveys has resulted in the development of the Acworth Elementary Parent Activities Plan.
  1. School Parent Compact
  2. The parent compact was developed jointly with our parents, staff and students. All families, school staff, and students are asked to participate by signing the compact to show their support. The compact will be distributed during Parent-Teacher Conferences in October the week of 18th-22nd, 2010.
  1. School and Community Partnership
  2. Our school builds ties between home and school by educating teachers, pupil services personnel, administration, and other staff by gathering input from parents on how to reach out to, communicate with, and work with parents as equal educational partners.
  3. Our school partnerships with the local community. Our Partners in Education are Acworth Business Association, Atlanta Budokan, Dove Chocolate Discoveries, Game on Sports, Kids Acworth Gallery, Kiwanis Club,MACTEC, Marietta Eye Clinic, NorthWest Bank & Trust,Publix,Stevi B’s and SummitBaptistChurch.Our partners support our school by providingsupplies, academic, financialand/or personnel support.
