PRESBYTERY OF MIDDLE TENNESSEE

2010 YOUTH TRIENNIUM APPLICATION

The Presbyterian Youth Triennium is a gathering of youth and adults from the Presbyterian Church (USA), Cumberland Presbyterian Church and the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in America.

The Theme is: “For Such A Time As This”, from Esther 4:14. PYT runs from July 20-24, 2010 on the campus of Purdue University in W. Lafayette, IN.

PARTICIPANTS

The Presbyterian Youth Triennium participants are made up of young people who must be at least a rising 9th grade and no older than 19 years old on July 20, 2010

COST

The cost to the participant will be $350.00 for the registration materials, transportation, housing and meals during the event. The Presbytery has allocated funds to offset some costs.

PROCEDURE

The Christian Education Ministry Unit of the Presbytery has selected Baker Ring of First Presbyterian Church Gallatin as Registrar. The procedure for selection is as follows:

  1. Applications should be submitted by December 1, 2009. A church official’s signature must be obtained. (Pastor, Youth Director, Christian Educator, or Clerk of Session may sign .

  1. There are four other categories of participants;

1)Work Crew: 19-22 years of age

2)Ambassadors: Age 55 and older

3)Global Partners: Youth/Young Adults from other nations

4)Small Group Leaders

Guidelines for Selecting Youth participants for the 2010 Youth Triennium

1.Be someone who lives out the Christian faith.

2.Be at least a rising 9th grader and no older than 19 years old on July 20, 2010

3.Be active in the Presbyterian Church in the Presbytery of Middle Tennessee and would be a good representative of your church in the larger church.

4.Be an active participant in their local church and youth activities.

5.Has participated in Presbytery activities – ex. NaCoMe Summer Camp, Fall or Winter Retreat.

6.Willing to participate in the total program and activities of the 2007 Youth Triennium and encourage full participation by others

7.Be able to live in a community of 25-35 (Presbytery of Middle Tennessee delegation) and 5,000 (total expected at the Youth Triennium Event)

8.Be able to travel with the delegation to and from the event July 20-24, 2010.

9.Willing to follow the “Community Life Guidelines” of the 2010 Youth Triennium.

10.Commitment to the program and mission of the Presbyterian Church (USA)

11.Be willing to share your Triennium experience with your local congregation and possibly with other congregations.

Guidelines for the Local Congregation

Pray for youth participants and their adult leaders.

Seek ways for possible financial support for youth participant through scholarships, fundraiser, and/or offering work opportunities.

 Provide opportunity for youth participant to share the Triennium experience with local congregation.

Program

The Triennium program includes daily worship services and theme presentations in a theater - style auditorium. Each participant will also be assigned to a discussion group that will meet each day of the event. There will also be a variety of special events including recreation, movies, concerts, prayer services, and yes, quiet time!
