PRELUDE, WELCOME, ANNOUNCEMENTS, Minute for mission & Greetings

*SILENT PREPARATION FOR WORSHIP

The sick are healed. The weak are strengthened. The truth is revealed in glorious power. The stories of our

faith shape us, and guide us. They orient us, and help us keep our bearings. They witness the conviction of

prophets and apostles, the certainty of those from whom we would least expect it. These are stories of hope and salvation. These are our stories.

*CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader: Sing to the Lord a new song.

People: Let the heavens be glad, and the earth rejoice.

Leader: Sing to the Lord a song of praise.

People: Let the mountains quake, and the seas roar.

Leader: Sing to the Lord a song of hope.

All: Let us tell of God’s salvation and the greatness of God’s love.

*OPENING HYMN I Sing the Mighty Power of God #32

*PRAYER OF CONFESSION and ASSURANCE OF PARDON

All: God of power and glory, voices are all around us, telling us what you expect of us and how we should live our lives, but we’re not sure who to listen to. Should we listen to voices of exclusion, telling us to reject other spiritual paths if we are to be Christ’s disciples and know the glory of your salvation?

Or should we listen to voices of inclusion, inviting us embrace spiritual practices of compassion and mercy, where ever they are found, even as we strive to be faithful followers of Jesus Christ?

In matters of faith, we long for the bravado of Elijah, the conviction of Paul, and the certainty of the Roman centurion, but we often find ourselves in uncharted seas—yearning for a guide who truly knows those waters. Speak to us now in the quiet center of our hearts, that we may see your ways more clearly, and taste the sweetness of your truth and grace. Amen.

Leader: There is only one true gospel of Jesus Christ— it is a gospel of righteousness, a gospel that embraces all people, a gospel of forgiveness, reconciliation, and love. Christ’s gospel is always bigger, more inclusive, and more wonderful, than we could possibly dream. Thanks be to God!.

All: Praise and thanks to God! Amen.

*RESPONSE The Gloria Patri #581

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost.

As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Amen.

NEW TESTAMENT READING Galatians 1:1-12 NRSV

1Paul an apostle—sent neither by human commission nor from human authorities, but through Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised him from the dead— 2and all the members of God’s family who are with me,

To the churches of Galatia:

3Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, 4who gave himself for our sins to set us free from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, 5to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen.

6I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— 7not that there is another gospel, but there are some who are confusing you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ. 8But even if we or an angel from heaven should proclaim to you a gospel contrary to what we proclaimed to you, let that one be accursed! 9As we have said before, so now I repeat, if anyone proclaims to you a gospel contrary to what you received, let that one be accursed!

10Am I now seeking human approval, or God’s approval? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still pleasing people, I would not be a servant of Christ.

11For I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that the gospel that was proclaimed by me is not of human origin; 12for I did not receive it from a human source, nor was I taught it, but I received it through a revelation of Jesus Christ.

GOSPEL READING Luke 7:1-10 NRSV

7After Jesus had finished all his sayings in the hearing of the people, he entered Capernaum. 2A centurion there had a slave whom he valued highly, and who was ill and close to death. 3When he heard about Jesus, he sent some Jewish elders to him, asking him to come and heal his slave. 4When they came to Jesus, they appealed to him earnestly, saying, “He is worthy of having you do this for him, 5for he loves our people, and it is he who built our synagogue for us.” 6And Jesus went with them, but when he was not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to say to him, “Lord, do not trouble yourself, for I am not worthy to have you come under my roof; 7therefore I did not presume to come to you. But only speak the word, and let my servant be healed. 8For I also am a man set under authority, with soldiers under me; and I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes, and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes, and to my slave, ‘Do this,’ and the slave does it.” 9When Jesus heard this he was amazed at him, and turning to the crowd that followed him, he said, “I tell you, not even in Israel have I found such faith.” 10When those who had been sent returned to the house, they found the slave in good health.

A Blessed Memorial Day Weekend to All! Our prayers of gratitude today and this weekend are in honor of all those who have given their lives in service of our country.

Today is the first of our summertime Come to Church with Me Sundays. Children and adults will worship together through our summer month. Kindergarten aged children and younger are also welcome in our nursery.

Today’s Coffee Time Donations will support our fellowship ministries and many events through the purchase of supplies.

Sunday, June 5, immediately following coffee time.
Helpers needed for BASH Float preparation. We will be covering the notes and paintbrush with fabric and labeling 1000 water bottles. The more help we get, the quicker we can get it done. Cookies will be provided!

Please join us on Sunday, June 12 for a Father's Day tea to be held immediately after church. The tea is to honor and celebrate the fathers in our congregation. There will be a sign up sheet in the narthex - please sign up so we can plan refreshments accordingly.

The Pastor Nominating Committee (PNC) needs/wants to know your priorities for a prospective minister. If you missed the conversation during the May 15 education hour, please see Terry Schermer & Kathy Quady, PNC Co-Chairs, to give your input.

The Fellowship Committee is looking for new members. Please consider joining this group if you like to have fun and have ideas for creative and interesting fellowship activities. Contact Pat Olsen for more information.

Looking for ways to get involved in the Bash? We have several teams that are focused on making this year's event an even bigger success than last years.
