Preceptorship Instructions

1. Your Schedule of preceptorship hours and goals and this sheet (signed by you) are due by April 10, 2017. This will be your ticket to the exam on April 10. You will not be given a code to take the exam until this is presented to the faculty monitoring the exam.

You must list four measurable goals that you would like to accomplish while in your preceptorship. If you do not have the preceptor's schedule by April 10, place a sticky note where the scheduled days would be written in and state when you will let the instructors know your schedule.

2. ANY change in schedule should be web mailed to Kathy Colgrove, Christi Doherty, Judy Callicoatt, Robert Lumpkins, and Larry Eustace. If you call in for whatever reason you must notify your preceptor and the school at 972 932 5726 as well as web mailing all instructors.

3. TVCC dress Code applies while in your preceptorship. For example: White uniform with TVCC patch, name badge, and picture ID, no visible tattoos, only one stud earring, no facial or tongue piercing, no false fingernails, hair must be neat and if long it must be up and off the collar.

4. You will sign up for and work full shifts. You may not arrange to work a partial shift for your convenience. A 12 hour shift means a 12 hour shift. The exception is if your preceptor is requested to go home due to lack of work load, then you too should go home unless it can be worked out for you to stay with another registered nurse who does not have another presenting student.

5. If you get to the hospital and your preceptor is not there because of illness or being requested off then you may stay to work your shift if the charge nurse or manager can arrange for you to work with another registered nurse for the day.

6. You must work your RN preceptor's schedule. DO NOT under ANY circumstance attempt to arrange to work with another RN preceptor unless approved in advance by the faculty (exception see # 4 and #5 above). Please be advised faculty will not approve preceptor changes and /or additions for personal reasons. Remember you have 18 days to complete 60 hours of clinical work time.

7. If you have questions regarding the instructions, contact a sophomore instructor for clarification.

8. I have read and understand the above requirements. Failure to follow the requirements may result in up to a 50% reduction of points from the preceptorship evaluation.

9. The self evaluation survey must be completed at the end of the preceptorship. (Failure to complete the survey WILL result in a completion of the semester requirements and submission of the student’s eligibility to take the RN-NCLEX)
