JOB DESCRIPTION

Post: Seasonal Activities Instructor(Level 6 MTB & BCU)

Responsible to: Chief Instructor

Job Purpose: To deliver and lead the instructional department’s activity programmes both on and off site.

Main duties and responsibilities:

1.  To be responsible for running water and land based courses both on and offsite in accordance with the Safety & Operational Handbook.

2.  To act as Course Director, preparing and producing course outlines, lesson plans, and audio visual aids in conjunction with your own teaching and for centre use.

3.  To deliver NGB Coach Education Courses in Outdoor Adventurous Sports

4.  Lead expeditions and activates off site as and when required.

5.  Give talks or lectures of general or specific interest to students at the centre and to outside bodies as required.

6.  To support the Chief Instructor and the Senior Activities Instructor with the mentoring of the centres Work Experience Staff.

7.  Act as Duty Activity Manager as and when required

8.  To assist the Equipment Officers (during quiet periods) with minor repairs to the instructional department’s equipment.

Health and Safety

9.  To respond to any emergency situations and record all incidents and accidents as required.

10.  Assist the Chief Instructor to ensure that waterfront and land based activity operations comply with statutory requirements and relevant codes of practice.

11.  In accordance with the provisions of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, to take reasonable care for the health and safety of yourself and others who may be affected by your acts or omissions at work. To co-operate with Sports Wales in compliance with its duties under any health and safety provisions, e.g. undertake risk assessments, COSHH/HACCP assessments, etc.

General

12.  To wear the appropriate uniform and comply with any customer service initiatives and dealing with customer comments and related procedures.

13.  To provide assistance to other Sport Wales’ staff consistent with ensuring that the operational requirements of the Centre are met.

14.  To help maintain a tidy and hygienic environment in all areas of the Centre (internal and external).

The nature of the post is such that the post holder is required to work irregular and unsocial hours including evenings, weekends and bank, public and other nominated holidays. Work patterns will require reasonable flexibility in accordance with the needs of the Centre.

Must hold National Governing Body Coach Educator /coaching/instructional qualifications in Outdoor Adventurous Sports for example - BCU Level 5 Coach Sea/Inland BCU Course Provider Level 1 coach and above, MLTB MIA/MIC, MLTB Course Director
RYA Coach Assessor/Powerboat Trainer/Windsurf Trainer / ü

Experience and knowledge
Experience of 8 seasons working in outdoor industry
Experience of working as a Duty Activity Manager at an Outdoor Centre
Experience of delivering a wide range of National Governing Body programmes
Experience of acting as Course Director for large groups / ü
