POST:LAUNDRY PROCESSING MANAGER

RESPONSIBLE TO:PRODUCTION MANAGER

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:To ensure all inward laundry iswashed and finished in accordance with St Jude’s laundry procedures and standards. To ensure processed laundry is sent to dispatch in agreed form to facilitate efficient dispatch to customers.
ROLE DESCRIPTOR:St Jude’sLaundry, part of the Forth Sector Group,has provided quality laundry services to discerning customers for 50 years and has a Royal Warrant. This is a management position. Your role will be to take responsibility for a discrete stage in the processing of commercial and private laundry. You will lead a team of up to 15 people, with responsibility for their performance and safety. Reporting to the ProductionManager, you will work closely with fellow team leaders to ensure a smooth, efficient process where quality and customer service are paramount.

MAIN TASKS

Organisation and Processes

  • To manage the laundrywashing, drying and finishing process: verify laundry received to Inward Laundry documentation, check laundry for stains and define appropriate wash programmes; finish laundry to individual customer requirements
  • To ensure optimum utilisation of laundry equipment
  • To deliver finished laundry to the Dispatch department in a timely and efficient manner
  • To oversee the laundry equipment preventive maintenance programme
  • To develop new methods for increasing laundry efficiency
  • To plan and optimise staff coverage, ensuring sufficient resources are available to meet anticipated demand on a daily, weekly and monthly basis
  • To direct staff in processing, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness
  • To work closely with colleagues, especially other team leaders, to ensure laundry processing is co-ordinated and carried out smoothly and efficiently, making best use of available resources
  • To train staff in efficient processes and equipment operation
  • Managing and replenishing consumables

Quality Control and Customer Service

  • To ensure customers’ laundry is correctly accounted for and handled with due care, minimising or eliminating errors and damage caused by poor handling
  • Ensure deadlines for returning customers’ orders are met, without exception
  • Ensure customers are kept informed whenever it is appropriate
  • To be responsive to customer queries and complaints, dealing with any issues quickly, effectively and courteously every time, within the terms of the customer charter

Performance Management and Team Development

  • To manage the performance of each member of the team, including productivity, quality, working relationships, discipline and absence, by setting objectives and standards within the organisation’s policies and procedures
  • Develop the skills and knowledge of your Depute to ensure that they can perform your duties in your absence
  • To set and monitor team performance against targets
  • To engender a team spirit, built on cooperation and respect and to engage in team development activities

Health and Safety

  • Within the limits of responsibility, to ensure a safe, healthy working environment for anyone entering the work area or carrying out tasks in it
  • To ensure PPE is always available and used in accordance with supplier instructions
  • To identify, report and where appropriate, eliminate risks

Administration

  • To carry out whatever administrative procedures are required for the area of operation, including recording and communicating data and information
  • To comply with specific or generic administration procedures (for example, staff or customer records)

PERSON SPECIFICATION – Laundry Processing Manager

The successful applicant must be able to demonstrate empathy for our client group, be committed to the promotion of a supportive working environment and support the aims of the organisation. A driving licence would be desirable.
