Spiritual Life Board Meeting

Date: March 13th, 2013

  1. Attendance: Ryan Murphy, Cayley Lott, Alex Aleman, Chad Manns, Spencer Turner and Naomi Flores

  1. Reaching Out
  1. Alex Aleman – had none of the sights for Reaching Out respond yet.
  2. Spencer – 3 sights
  3. Chad – 5 sights
  4. Cayley – 3 sights
  5. Ryan – 1 sight, Belton High School is doing something with houses, and they asked for a concrete number of students we can send. I’m thinking about saying 40, so that they have 2 people a house. Then we have other yard work houses that we can send people. Dr. Locke can’t do the speaking that weekend, because he’s already speaking at a conference that weekend. I asked the Dean of Nursing Dr. Sauder if she was interested and she was very interested. Luther is booked. Sound is booked.
  1. Spiritual Life Night
  2. Ryan Murphy – We still need to talk to Nathan about leading worship that night. Do we need signs to explain where the different stations are?
  3. Cayley Lott – my church back home does something similar to this. They have I guess what you call stations and they’ll do worship then have someone explain the different stations so people can interact. They’ve done things like having a basket in the back for people to write prayers down, and they’ve done things with candles.
  4. Naomi Flores – If we decide on stations then we can ask Shawn in the BSM if they have signs, so we don’t have to make them.
  5. Chad Manns – Are we still having worship?
  6. Ryan Murphy – yes. 4 or 5 songs, then he can keep strumming on his guitar to keep the tone of the night reverent.
  7. Cayley Lott – yeah, I think that it helps people take it seriously.
  8. Ryan Murphy – The Basket Idea would be good. Would that be more for Confession?
  9. Cayley Lott – I think it would be good to make it just about any kind of prayer that would be good.
  10. Chad Manns – Are we going to do something where we prayer for the things around us?
  11. Ryan Murphy – Like a guided prayer time.
  12. Naomi Flores – I like the idea of doing something physical with our hands to either give up our distractions or to let go of things that are hindering us. We did it in MLC and BSM events before and it was really a good thing.
  13. Alex Aleman – I think it would be a good thing to have a time of Adoration, and just expressing things about God.
  14. Chad Manns – I think it would be a great idea to have something that people could take away and carry with them throughout the week.
  15. Ryan Murphy – 4 stations; Baskets, Communion, Guided Prayer especially for Easter Pageant and Adoration.
  16. Spencer Turner – Would it be good for each of us to have a station we could lead.
  17. Ryan Murphy – Yes, which ones do y’all want?
  18. Cayley Lott – Baskets
  19. Spencer Turner – Guided Prayer
  20. Chad Manns – Adoration
  21. Alex Aleman– Communion
  22. Ryan Murphy – If you could all come up with things to do for that night that would be great. I will contact Nathan and see about him leading worship.
  23. Spencer Turner – Where are we going to get the posters?
  24. Ryan Murphy – since we’re going to have our own stations I think that I can just point to y’all and explain where the stations are.
  25. Spencer Turner – how long is it going to be?
  26. Ryan Murphy – an hour at most, but if it ends earlier it won’t be a big deal.
  27. Cayley Lott – When we get closer to the day will you tell us what time to get here to set up?
  28. Alex Aleman– I’m so excited!!!
  1. Prayer Requests
  2. Ryan Murphy – OFFICIALLY moving to Thailand!!!! Praise the Lord! Now I start the preparation process of moving there. I have about months. My grandmother is having brain surgery a week from tomorrow.
  3. Spencer Turner – I have to choose a law school in the next 2 to 3 weeks. Please pray!
  4. Cayley Lott – My parents are going to court because of something with the IRS, and something about child support. They’ve been divorced for 3 years, and pray that it all goes smoothly.
  5. Alex Aleman– Just for tests and all that stuff.
  6. Naomi Flores – Beach Reach is this week, so I’ve been praying for that.
