Title: Positive Images Volunteer
Location: Peterborough
Reporting to:Holly Middleditch,Positive Images Project Officer
Typical tasks
To deliver awareness-raising activities to groups of young people (aged 12-25) within school, college or youth group settings during daytime or evening sessions.
To support young peoples’ participation and contribution towards agreed outcomes through youth action projects.
To manage young peoples’ use of project materials and resources.
To work closely with Project Officer in planning activities and developing project resources and materials.
To liaise with and work alongside school, college or youth group staff, as well as other internal personnel and external agencies.
To assist in the promotion of the Positive Images project, such as through distributing promotional materials, giving presentations, media work etc.
To participate in training and development programmes appropriate to the role.
To keep and maintain accurate records and to support the evaluation process as necessary.
Responsibilities
To treat all information given by British Red Cross staff, volunteers and service users as confidential.
To deliver the service in line with British Red Cross service standards, policies and local service agreements.
To work within the British Red Cross health and safety policy and to maintain a safe working environment at all times.
To uphold the Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and to work within the Society’s equal opportunities policy.
Qualities and skills we are looking for
Committed to and interested in working with young people
Committed to and interested in humanitarian issues, including migration and development
Good interpersonal skills, being able to communicate confidently and effectively with young people, volunteers and staff in partner agencies
The ability to present information accurately and concisely
Sensitivity and tact in working with vulnerable groups and sensitive subject matters
The ability to work independently, as well as part of a team
Reliability and punctuality
Flexibility when undertaking diverse roles
Ability to travel within East Anglia and for training
Good standard of fluency in English
Practicalities
Availability during daytime hours: 1 morning / afternoon per week
Additional commitment will be required for training which may take place over weekends
Ideally 1 year commitment
Time commitmentmayvaryand applicants who can be flexible would be preferred
