Position Title: Content Production Officer

Reports To: Head of Communications

Position Type: Part time – four days a week (fixed term, six month contract, with possibility to extend)

MAIN PURPOSE OF POSITION

The Content Production Officer is responsible for producing compelling communications content for ActionAid’s channels, reporting on key moments for the organisation and gathering stories,and targeting content at specific audiences to help recruit, maintain and engage supporters and communicate with stakeholders such as government, partner organisations and networks. This role is responsible for ensuring key information on our work is readily available, both online and offline.

This role works within ActionAid’s Communications team, and works closely with teams across the organisation.

KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Key Responsibilities / Tasks/Duties
Story Gathering and Reporting /
  • Develop and maintain relationships with communications colleagues across the international Federation in order to enable the sharing of stories and content, sometimes to urgent and tight deadlines.
  • Maintain an understanding of work that is happening across the global organisation as a means of content gathering by keeping across ActionAid’s internal communications platforms, including StoriesHub, the Hive and daily news updates.
  • Pitch stories to the communications, fundraising and campaigns teams where appropriate (eg. Strong stories that can be used for fundraising appeals or in campaign communications).
  • Develop and maintain a strong grasp on ActionAid’s programs and policy work, and report on key pieces of work and moments where required, ensuring that the work being undertaken by the organisation is fulfilling content needs (see Content Production and Management). This includes, but is not limited to, ActionAid’s participation in key international summits and conferences, key national advocacy moments (such as the federal budget and the Federal election), the launching of new programs and the release of new reports.

Content Production and Management /
  • Work with teams across the organisation on content requests, provide recommendations of content packages around key moments and work with the Digital Strategist to ensure smooth implementation and planning of data driven content.
  • Produce content packages for fundraising and campaigns. This includes producing and editing video content as well as writing copy.
  • Assist with writing content for appeals, campaigns and all digital channels and editing where required.
  • Produce web copy and content for the ActionAid Australia website, including writing/editing of blogs. Includes content collection, collation of organisation’s content needs.
  • Write email communications to ActionAid’s donors and campaigners with an ability to slightly adapt tone and style to target different audiences.
  • Stay up-to-date with trends in modern digital storytelling techniques (e.g listicles, charticles, video) and make sure ActionAid are at the cutting edge.
  • Provide support to the programs team in developing case studies and other communications for donor and technical audiences.
  • Work with the graphic designer to produce offline communications materials where required.

Social Media /
  • Manage the day-to-day content scheduling across all of ActionAid’s social media platforms; Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, upholding ActionAid’s social media voice, and cater to specific audiences across all digital outlets.
  • Manage design (ie: Facebook Timeline cover, profile pic, thumbnails, landing pages, Twitter profile, and blog).
  • Be the digital human face for ActionAid; monitor, listen and respond to users while cultivating leads and providing relevant information on campaigns and appeals.
  • Create, curate, and develop tailored digital content (images, memes, video and written) to grow ActionAid’s online community.
  • Report monthly on social media activity to the Digital Strategist to help inform growth areas and areas of requiring improvement.
  • Identify threats and opportunities in user generated content surrounding ActionAid. Report notable threats to appropriate management and manage any trolls under provided guidelines.
  • Work with the Digital Strategist on monitoring effective benchmarks (best practices) for measuring the impact and effectiveness of Social Media campaigns.

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES REQUIRED

Essential

  • A commitment to ActionAid’s mission.
  • A commitment to and understanding of women’s rights.
  • Three to four years communications experience, preferably working in for rights-based organisations.
  • Demonstrated strong editorial skills (copy writing, editing, social media best practice) and technical know-how.
  • Demonstrated experience in content research, writing and editing of on-brand engaging and inspiring content with short deadlines.
  • Ability to produce engaging technical content for policy audiences.
  • Demonstrated experience in using a range of digital channels to engage people and inspire them to take actions.
  • Demonstrated experience in producing successful EDM copy, and preferably the management of email campaigns including testing and tracking to maximise impact.
  • Familiarity with a variety of online marketing concepts, best practices and procedures.
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of Social Media platforms, their respective participants (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, Pinterest etc.).
  • A degree in a communications or marketing related discipline.

Desirable

  • Experience using NationBuilder and/or NetCommunity.
  • A background in women’s rights and/or global justice.
  • Video editing skills.
