POSITION: Software Implementation Specialist

POSITION DESCRIPTION

This position focuses on the implementation of new technologies, including installation, testing, operation, troubleshooting, management, and maintenance of desktop and server systems for administrative and academic personnel. Reporting to the Software Coordinator, the Software Implementation Specialist works closely with the other Technology Advancement and Support staff to ensure that all computer software necessary for administrative systems and instructional needs are identified, investigated, purchased, inventoried, and maintained. Includes support of labs both on site and off site, training facilities and general IT office software and hardware. Provides technical advice to lower level technical staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

·  Bachelor’s degree in a course of study related to the occupational field from a regionally or nationally accredited college with at least 1 year full-time paid work experience in technical support OR An Associate’s degree in a course of study related to the occupational field from a regionally or nationally accredited college along with at least 3 years full-time paid work experience in technical support, OR A High School Diploma and at least 5 years full-time paid work experience in technical support.

·  Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position.

·  Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

Software Implementation Specialist TAS/ 09.04

Technology Advancement and Support FLSA Duties: Exempt

JOB SUMMARY

This position focuses on the implementation of new technologies, including installation, testing, operation, troubleshooting, management, and maintenance of desktop and server systems for administrative and academic personnel. Reporting to the Software Coordinator, the Software Implementation Specialist works closely with the other Technology Advancement and Support staff to ensure that all computer software necessary for administrative systems and instructional needs are identified, investigated, purchased, inventoried, and maintained. Includes support of labs both on site and off site, training facilities and general IT office software and hardware. Provides technical advice to lower level technical staff.

MAJOR DUTIES

Operational Role:

·  Evaluates, tests, and implements new technologies to meet the needs of the College; facilitate the enhancement of services; and improves efficiencies and the effectiveness of operations – both academically and administratively; streamlining and automating processes.

·  Installs and configures classroom systems as needed by the beginning of each term; resets customizations and removes programs, utilities and files added during previous term.

·  Maintains an accurate inventory of all computer software on all campuses.

·  Administers Group Policies within Active Directory.

·  Administers multiple databases as well as virtual and physical servers.

·  Installs and configures system and application software for Mac systems for labs and individual workstations.

·  Ensures proper software is installed and fully functional for use in administrative, faculty, and staff offices as well as in classrooms and other common areas.

·  Troubleshoot sites and systems experiencing configuration management problems.

Interface Role:

·  Works in cooperation with the Technology Systems Support Manager and Technology Advancement and Support Technicians to ensure a robust level of software support on all campuses.

·  Provides training to the Technology Advancement and Support Technicians to ensure their ability to support the new technologies introduced as well as training for end users.

·  Responds to the needs of the department and the college by assisting other team members and resolving escalated support requests when necessary.

·  Position may demand irregular hours to ensure equipment is installed, configured, and maintained in a manner to minimize the impact on the operations of the college on all campuses.

·  Performs other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

·  Interpersonal skills: negotiation, listening (for system requirements specifications by users/operators), customer service; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and written.

·  Critical thinking.

·  Computer software installation, configuration, and maintenance concepts, troubleshooting skills.

·  Computer/technology skills, to include Office applications, email, and general understanding of software operations, installation, configuration, and updating.

·  Knowledge of LAN, WAN, and Group Policy.

·  Knowledge of DNS, DHCP, WINS, and TCP/IP.

·  Knowledge of Windows and Mac OS X, networking topologies, and PC/Server hardware

·  Knowledge of the tools and techniques used in the diagnosis and resolution of computer software and hardware operating problems.

·  Knowledge of basic electricity and electrical systems safety.

·  Knowledge of programming systems, software and hardware configuration

·  Knowledge of software licensing requirements or ability to research the requirements for each given application

·  Organization skills

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

The Software Coordinator assigns work in terms of goals and objectives. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures and the nature and propriety of the final results.

GUIDELINES

Guidelines include Chattahoochee Technical College policies and procedures and federal and state rules and regulations. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK

·  The variety and volume of tasks to be performed contributes to the complexity of the position.

·  The purpose of this position is to implement the installation, configuration, and maintenance of system software and application software. Success in this position contributes to the effective operation of college information technology systems.

CONTACTS

·  Contacts are typically with co-workers, software support agents, and computer system end-users.

·  Contacts are typically to research new technologies, investigate needs of the college, train users of technology, and provide and gain cooperation of a team necessary to have functional systems across all campuses.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT

·  This position typically requires walking, standing, stooping, sitting, and working on ladders. Work will also include use of various tools, climbing ladders, and lifting light and heavy objects.

·  Position also requires considerable use of a computer station, including viewing monitors and using keyboards and mice.

·  Normal operations of the position are in a business office/academic environment, but may also include work outside, in ceilings, storage/wiring closets, and other sites as necessary to ensure proper operation of responsible area of technology.

·  The work is typically performed in an office.

SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY

·  This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
