Position Overview

This position will play a critical role in conducting and interpreting ACSF assessments and contributing to the development of Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) skills within the NT prison community. The position requires highly innovative approaches to ACSF assessments and the integration of LNN training into vocational training programs. The ideal applicant will have experience working with and engaging Indigenous Australians and have vocational skills as well as qualifications in teaching Literacy and Numeracy to adult learners.

Detailed Statement of Duties

1. Conduct effective pre- and post- training ACSF assessments of prisoners.

2. Delivery of a range of LLN accredited and non-accredited programs and Certificate 1 and II Foundation skills through flexible, innovative and IT based strategies.

3. Develop appropriate teaching materials which respond to clients learning needs. In particular, provide specialist technical knowledge and input into the development of a workplace English language, literacy and numeracy programs

4. Prepare training plans, application and enrolments forms and associated resources required for the effective and efficient delivery and assessment of courses.

5. Integrate Foundation Skills into vocational training programs.

6. Maintain student records as required; report progress of students to the Division and NTDCS as required by NVR standards (ASQA).

7. Undertake the basic administrative tasks required of all Batchelor Institute staff in relation to course delivery.

8. Develop strong relationships with stakeholders and students to support learning and consult and counsel them on academic progress and recommend appropriate action.

9. Maintain professional development particularly in the area of foundation skills development and integration into vocational training programs.

10. Other duties within the range of skills normally associated with this designation as directed.

Essential Selection Criteria

1. A tertiary qualification equivalent to three (3) year’s higher education relevant to a qualification in TESOL/ESL, significant experience in ACSF assessments and Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE-LLN).

2. Demonstrated capacity to work effectively within the social, political and cultural environments of Indigenous Australians.

3. Proven capacity to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with others in culturally diverse teams, including team teaching as well as being able to work independently of direct supervision.

4. Demonstrated capacity to conduct and interpret ACSF assessments and develop training programs with workplace assessment.

5. Demonstrated capacity to respond effectively literacy needs of adult indigenous Australians.

6. Demonstrated skills to undertake a range of administrative, supervisory and liaison tasks including computer technology and electronic communications.

7. Demonstrated understanding of quality assurance (ASCF and ASQA) principles and practices.

Desirable Selection Criteria

1. Qualifications in English as a Second Language or adult education qualifications.
