4. Action Items: None

5. Discussion Items: None

6. Information Items:

a. PTHS Mission Statement: Jon Kilgore reported that the committee had not yet met to discuss changes to the mission statement. The committee will meet during Second Semester.

b. Semester Grading System: Jesse Faber reported that he had assembled a committee that has met and is in the process of collecting information from other schools. Faber reported by the next CAC Meeting he will have information to hand out. This has remained an information item.

c. 2-D Art II Course: Nick Vogt presented his proposal for a new art class. His goal is to provide students with more opportunities within the art department. The class will be capped at five students at the upperclassmen level. The students will be placed in an already existing art class, so there will not be an interruption to the schedule. Vogt reported several students being turned away from art last semester and he would like to prevent that. He wants to target students that enjoy art as an elective. This item has been left as an information item. Vogt will report back with a syllabus and cost analysis.

d. Math Department Proposal—Discrete Math with Trigonometry and Statistics: Jon Kilgore met with the Math Department to discuss the possibility of instituting a double blocked Algebra Foundations class, instead of Algebra A and B. Chad Shepard and Roger Day proposed the addition of a new math class for seniors, Discrete Math with Trigonometry and Statistics. The course would be designed to provide more options for seniors and help prepare them to place in credit earning courses at junior colleges. Students taking this course would include those who struggled in Algebra 2 or Algebra 2 with Trigonometry as juniors but would still like to take a math course their senior year. The positive and negative aspects of adding an additional math course for seniors was discussed. Jaime Ramseyer and Ryan Crowley support the idea of this class, from a student perspective. Eric Bohm expressed concern that this class needs to be presented in a manner that will challenge students at a lower level, instead of providing an easy alternative to a more rigorous course of study. Lisa Meyer expressed concern that students will not want to take four years of math. Overall concern was centered on how students would be selected. Shepard suggested presenting the class to Algebra 2 students to see their response. Paula Warren supported the idea of the class from a Parent’s perspective. Megan Bozarth suggested the course have a Prerequisite of Department Placement. Mike Lucas expressed support for the class. The course proposal will move to a discussion item.

7. RtI Reports

a. Tier 1: Jon Kilgore reported hope for an 80% success rate for tested students. They are in the process of screening students. Eric Bohm reported all students have been tested with Plato. He went to a conference on this and expressed a need to focus on the Tier 1 Level. Bohn wants to look at grades, talk with teachers second semester, and promote a positive, motivational culture for students to be successful. Roger Day reported on the Mastery Program, which is designed to help with flexibility and immediacy when creating and collecting data on assessments. Jon Kilgore stressed a need to align courses and tests to state standards and then develop common assessments within departments.

b. Tier 2: Students identified at this Tier need to go to Amy Schroeder for help. Jon Kilgore again stressed the need for a blocked Algebra class to target these students. He wants the course to focus on basic algebra skills.

c. Tier 3: Was not discussed

8. Jon Kilgore proposed a January meeting to further discuss these items. Beth Halloran motioned to approve the addition of a January meeting. Jesse Faber seconded. Lisa Meyer motioned to hold the meeting on January 14, 2010. Mike Lucas seconded.

9. Jesse Faber motioned to adjourn the meeting at 7:53 a.m. Megan Bozarth seconded the motion.
