GUIDELINES FOR SELECTING POTENTIAL APPLICANTS
Our goal is for the local schools and community organizations to present the local Rotary Club
with many times the number of qualified candidates for selection. The local Rotary Club will
interview the nominees and choose the student(s) that will represent their club at RYLA.
In order to be eligible, students must presently be members of the sophomore class
and be able to attend the entire RYLA weekend conference.
3. The following criteria should be included in your selection process:
Leadership Potential: Possesses the qualities required of an effective leader.
Leadership Experience: Has the student had any experience in a leadership capacity (e.g. class officer, team captain, officer in a school organization)?
Academic Ability: Seriously pursues his/her studies to the best of his/her ability.
Extracurricular Activities: Does the candidate participate in after-school activities?
Intellectual Curiosity: Does the candidate question that which is experienced or do they simply accept it?
Articulation: Does the candidate express thoughts and feelings accurately and effectively?
Relationship with Peers: How easily does the candidate get along with others?
Openness to This Experience: Is the candidate willing and eager to participate in a new experience, with a new group of peers?
Diversity: Does the candidate reflect the cultural diversity of your community?
We are looking for sincere, interested and well-rounded individuals for the RYLA program.

1 The following questions have been used successfully by various Rotary Club RYLA representatives in the past. They are provided as examples; please feel to use any appropriate alternate questions.
1.  Do you have any interesting hobbies, outside interests?
2.  How would you define leadership? What makes a good leader?
3.  Who has history proven to be a good leader and why?

APPLICANT INTERVIEW EVALUATION FORM
Scholarships are awarded to students who will be entering their Junior year at the time of the conference.
The young leaders are to be selected on the basis of leadership potential, personal values and good citizenship, intelligence, promise of future success and their desire to attend. The person selected will represent your Club in a leadership training program with over 100 other young leaders from other high schools throughout the District in Central Massachusetts. You are encouraged to select young men and women who will contribute to the total program and in the following year will make a positive contribution in their school and community.

REGISTRATION INSTRUCTIONS
You will need to work from a computer with internet access and an attached printer in order to complete the registration process. If you do not have access to one, please make arrangements with your local Rotary Club.

2.  ENTER YOUR INFORMATION ONLINE AND PRINT THE COMPLETED FORM WHEN PROMPTED
3.  SIGN THE FORMS WITH YOUR PARENT OR GUARDIAN (Multiple signatures needed from each.)

OTHER IMPORTANT NOTES
·  NO STUDENTS ARE ALLOWED TO HAVE VEHICLES ON CAMPUS
Although many parents choose to bring their students to the conference, your local Rotary club is prepared to assist if necessary. Please let your Rotary Club know as soon as possible if you need transportation assistance.
·  ALL STUDENTS MUST STAY FOR THE ENTIRE CONFERENCE
All students attending RYLA must stay for the entire conference. There are others counting on your full participation. Exceptions will not be made.
·  PARENTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO JOIN US FOR AN AWARDS RECEPTION ON SUNDAY
Light refreshments will be provided. The program will begin promptly at 4pm and will end by 5:30.
·  YOUR LOCAL ROTARY CLUB FULLY SPONSORS YOUR TUITION OF $250
It is important that you let your club know immediately if you are unable to attend so that they may offer the opportunity to another student. Clubs receive no refund if you do not attend.
