Pharaoh Project:

Part I: Tomb

You will design a tomb (the chamber inside a pyramid where the body and personal belongings are placed) for an assigned Pharaoh or Queen (Hatshepsut, Tutankhamun, Cleopatra, Nefertiti, Amenhotep IV/Akhenaten, or Ramses II) out of a shoebox. It must have the following components:

  1. Outside: must be completely covered in paper and decorations on the outside (Nike didn’t exist in Ancient Egypt!)
  2. Use colors found in the desert (yellows, golds, browns).
  3. Write anEpitaph in hieroglyphics on the outside of your tomb describing your Pharaoh.
  4. You must enclose the tomb with a piece of paper bearing the fallen Pharaoh’s name on a Cartouche.
  5. Inside:
  6. The walls must be decorated with art you would likely find in Ancient Egyptian tombs.
  7. What Gods might be painted on the walls?
  8. What other art?
  9. Artifacts inside the tomb:
  10. Canopic jars: lungs (baboon), stomach (jackal), intestines (falcon) and liver (human)
  11. What personal belongings and riches did your Pharaoh want to take with him or her into the afterlife?
  12. You must include at least 5 artifacts that one would find in an ancient Pharaoh’s tomb.
  13. The Pharaoh
  14. You must have a sarcophagus that is painted to look like the Pharaoh inside.
  15. You may also include a mummy inside the sarcophagus; this is not required.
