September News:

This month we will be digging in deep with our learning and progressing toward our mid and end of the year goals! In ELA and Reading our focus will be on recognizing and using key details to better our understanding of texts and promoting understanding of our readers in our personal writing. We will continue working on grammar and punctuation to strengthen our writing as well. In Math we will continue practicing our math facts to increase speed and automaticity and we will also begin lessons on fluently adding and subtracting through 20, then through 100. In Social Studies we will continue using our Studies Weekly program to understand Civics and Government, Geography, etc. In Science we are practicing our scientific inquiry skills and learning to organize, classify, and experiment with objects based on their physical attributes!

Please feel free to email me with any questions about our curriculum .

The Early Bird Gets the Worm!:

In this section of our monthly newsletter I will include extra practice ideas and/or projects for students to use at home (with the help from a family member). Don’t hesitate to do these activities!

  • Study those addition and subtraction math facts! – We are moving away from simple addition and subtraction and into more complicated mathematical operations. The faster your child can recall their math facts, the better they can do at lengthier, multi-step problems. The Dollar Tree has flash cards that work great and students enjoy for only $1!
  • Build your child’s reading fluency! – Our comprehension and vocabulary tests are on second grade reading level and I cannot read the passages or questions to them. With increased reading ability, comes increased comprehension and test scores. Reading for 20 minutes is homework each and every night Monday-Friday.
